What's so sad about using your car for a daily driver?

Brandon,
Trust me, you'll be just fine with a set of stock 327 rods (NOT 283 rods, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!!!). Believe it or not, I have a set of STOCK, reconditioned, small journal 327 rods (with new ARP Wavloc bolts) in this 420SB that I built for the boat. Never a problem, and we frequently make full throttle blasts across the lake!

So far EVERY SET OF SIR rods we have seen has need resizing. After retorquing the rods and checking the sise of the rods they will change uop tp .003 out of round.

Do a search on that one.

CNC: Down here in Tn. we use these in every engine we work on. Didnt see one bad one so far. No problems with Eagles or Scats. Maybe the temperature up north affects the sizes?

They are checked when I first get them. Then they are checked with the bearings inside for correct clearance, and then they're installed. No problems, engines are gone and running well.

The rods they are talking about are the skinny, early 265 and 305 rods, all the others are fine if the journal size is right!!

I canned my good '55, 265 rods b/c boy were they skinny suckers for a set of who know's what thicker beamed 283 rods for my old junk301 b/c I was scared ta run them!!!

We have only seen this problem with the SIR rods not the H-Beams as we had 3 sets come though the shop last year and all had the same problem.

Do a search on this site
http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/engine/ as you may learn something as I have not been the only one that seen this problem with the Sir Rods.

Just comparing apples to apples do you do the type of performance work we do or are you the type of guy that buys parts out of a box and bolts them together or do you have a machine shop???? just comparing apples to apples here.

Well, I guess the temperature out here screws them up too,,, :pout:

While I will agree with what you stated about Scat as I rarely have any issue with them, the last two sets of Eagles I used that were brought in by the customer I had to resize.
Now I can't say where they came from, probably Ebay & we do know that some of the stuff on auctions sites is not exactly what you may get from the manufacturers at times regardless of the claims,,,,,,

Non the less, both of these sets changed by enough that I sure would not be putting them into anything I built.
BTW, one was I & one H beam
That said, most of the Eagle stuff I have seen has been just fine in the past but I see very little of it as I use Scat almost exclusively for the "budget" stuff.
I feel their QC is excellent.

Of course if the budget permits my choice is Callies, Oliver Manley etc,,,,, :)

But back to the original post, as was stated,,
For what you are doing the stock rods would be just fine
Deal is for the price of new ones now days, I have not reconditioned a stock rod for a SB or BB Chevy in probably 5+ years,,

BTW, I do not use the SIR or the Scat cheap rod anymore,
I only use the 7/16" Procomp capscrew ones for an I beam & on rare occasions the 3/8" capscrew ones.
For the difference in price I don't see any point but that's just me..

We don't carry the those Eagle rods as we have been using the Scat rods on the street performance engines as we may only have to hone them to the size we are looking for and the Sir rods wqe have seen we have had to resize them to get them round again an we charge 128.00 dollars for that process.

Save your call tag and we have the proper equipment to check the rods as far as sizing and twist and bend.
