: How do I degrease an engine compartment?

I've done it before with my brother's dinky little power washer and a couple of cans of Gunk, but I'm wondering if there's an easier way. I was thinking of just renting one of those real deal power washers for like $50 and just try to muscle all of the grease dirt and grim off of everything. What's the best way to approach this?

Oh yeah, the motor is out of the car.

can you get it too a outside car wash?? If so I'd spray it with purple cleaner and the power wash the sucker.. if not.. I would then spray it with purple cleaner, scrub scrub scrub, spray again, scrub again, then rinse... should do the trick!

I thought of that normie, and I have one of those outdoor do-it-yourself car wash places about 1000 feet from where the car is parked, but the guy that owns it usually hangs out there, and I don't know how happy he'd be with me if I'm sitting in his place for an hour or so.

I know it's a lot more expensive to rent a power washer, but at least I can clean at my own pace with no worries.

Has anybody else done this? Just lookin' to see how much pressure I need and what kind of solvents work best. Super Clean? Spray Nine? Gunk?

I've always wondered this, maybe someone can answer from experience...

I have one of those Campbell Hausfeld power washers that you can get for $80 or so. How hot can the water be that you pass through it before the seals or whatever else inside breaks? I know hot water plus soap does a heck of a lot better job than just cold water and soap.

I have a 2100 psi pressure washer and I just cleaned my frame with it. I used a little castrol (purple stuff) with it and it took everything off easily(even the suface rust). If you do rent one be carefull most of the units are industrial grade so they can really pack a punch. Just make sure the pressure is down or if theres no adjustment just dont get the nozzle to close to what your cleaning. I think you'd be happy with the results. Thanks

a little funny thing about degreasing my engine..my brother and i are both 17 and he has a 69 camaro and i have a 70 chevelle ss and we both entered in a car show. We'll we stocked a few rags, a tons of brake cleaner...Once we got there and with the engine all hot we popped the hood of my car and shot brake cleaner all over my engine compartment. By the headers, between heads and block and intake and can you imagined the wierd look i got from the other schmucks using tooth brushes (no offense to those who do it) http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif needless to say i had a blast watching the people gawk at me in action preparing for the judgings hehe http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
