This is a non Chevelle question, but may be some of you guys can help me. I use my 98 blazer for towing and going to the lake just about every weekend during the summer. Every now and then I get on a steep boat ramp the gets covered with mud and water and my open differential just doesn't cut it and makes getting up the ramp difficult. This year I decided to do something about it. I purchased some new all terrain new tires and the next day installed a Powertrax No-Slip locker. The install went smooth, but after taking it out for a test drive I noticed a annoying and potentially dangerous condition that I can't seem to find the cause. When under hard acceleration, like getting on the highway it tries veer left real bad, Enough so that I have to turn the wheel to the right about a quarter turn just to keep it straight. When I let off the gas it shoots to the right and I have to steer left to catch it. I can repeat this over and over just by giving it gas and letting off while going down the road. Thinking that I had installed it wrong I pulled it out and carefully looked for any signs of damage or defect of which I found none. Then I assembled the unit on the bench and used a marker to mark all the pieces in different areas so I could see from any angle that all the pieces would be lined up correctly when I reinstalled it in the carrier. After reinstalling it and going for a test drive nothing changed. Today I even jacked up the rear end and used a tire tape measure to check the stagger just to make sure both tires were identical in size, and they are. I have emailed Richmond Gear about this problem but have not received a reply yet. Any help or ideas what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

sounds as though the whole rear is shifting under load/coast conditions. could be leaf spring problems. tom

This is typical for a locker, although you seem to have an extreme case of it. What happens is that the locker is locked up on the right side under accelleration, causing it to push to the left. When you let off of the gas the left side is catching, causing it to pull to the right. Both sides of the locker are not normally locked at the same time if traction is good. The only time they fully lock up is when one wheel is slipping.

I have a Lock Right in my truck and a Detroit Locker in my Camaro and they both do this, but just enough to notice it. Neither one does it enough to cause any trouble, Just a very slight amount of pressure on the steering wheel takes care of it.
