: Ol Paint will get a partial repaint!
Big James 4XL Apr 20th, 04, 8:51 PM Well, I couldn't stand it any longer!!! graemlins/angry.gif
Late last summer I made a half a$$ed repair then buffed into the primer on the driver side quarter trying to make it look better and that just won't do with the events I have coming up.
I got the problem spots uncovered today, a few small rust spots that were starting to show, tomorrow I'll block sand to find the low spots then prep and skim coat with filler. Then block sand and fill, and block sand and fill, and......... Hopefully I'll get paint back on it by the weekend, but I will not rush it!
No turning back now!!!
AARRRRRRGGGG!!!!

I had a really bad looking spot I tied to repair but the only way to fix it is to paint the whole panel.
It will be close but I hope to be buffing it out early in the week and be ready to head out Friday!
You just don't know class when you see it pmullaly! graemlins/waving.gif

Rick Afraid not! That trek to Nashville down I 40 is just too scary for me! I almost lost it last year and I took that as an omen!
Going to the Peach State show in Ga. this year!
Professor_SS Apr 26th, 04, 4:25 PM now that you got the easy part done. IT looks great BTW. It will take two weeks to get the rest of the elky as shinny as that panels is if your luck is anything like mine. :D
cjlandry Apr 26th, 04, 6:27 PM Lookin' good, James! Is that single-stage paint?

The repaint would have been flawless had it not been for a 747 size "skeeter" making a landing on the first coat!!! graemlins/angry.gif
One of the hazards of painting in an open garage. I got got it looking pretty good though with a little color sanding and buffing, way better than it did with the primer spot showing through where I tried to make a repair. This winter I'll rent a proper paint booth and redo the whole thing like it should be.
Big James 4XL Apr 28th, 04, 6:40 PM All better now!!!
As ready for the SE Regionals as I can get now!
A 25ft paint job instead of a 50ft one!

jon65 May 1st, 04, 11:19 AM Big James,
This is a dumb question but I am a newby at body work. What is that plastic that you used to tape off/cover the areas that you did not want overspray on. Is that purchased at a autobody supply store? Where did you get it.

Jon Not a dumb question!!!
I got it from the Sherwin Williams auto paint store. It works great to keep down overspray. It's not very expensive.
Be aware though you need to change it after paint or primer dries on it. If you dont sometimes when you apply another coat the dried paint will be blown into the air, or your paint, by the pressure from the gun.
