I have a 70ss 396 with a great body but the paint has to many imperfections for me to keep looking at them. I have a friend that's been doing auto body for a while. He says he is going to spray it with 3 coats of lacquer and 3 coats of high end clear. My father in-law said he heard that's not the best paint for that car, I should use an epoxy(no Clear) paint. He said it's really strong and it's easier to touch up. Anyone have any comments or if someone did get there's painted, if they like either products

use a base coat/clear coat like all the newer cars. Lacquer is almost impossible to get, and has been surpassed in quality many times over by the new paints. epoxy paints are very tough, but some (or all) can produce FATAL fumes. Go talk to a paint shop. they can give you the best advice.

Use the basecoat/clearcoat. Pick your brand, but go for the high end stuff. Anyone who uses lacquer anymore is either a fanatic original restoration person or a damn fool. Single stage epoxys look great, most are expensive, but don't compare to the gloss and depth of a quality basecoat/clearcoat job.

Just an FYI...
Lacquers are illegal in many states now anyway. All paints are to be applied in an approved paint booth.
I used a one stage on my car. If you don't mind "rubbing out" paint, go for it, otherwise do the two stage.
