My 68 is taking on water where the top of glass meets the roof and is starting to rust out. I will be storing the car for the winter and need advice on something to stop the rust and a sealer to stop the water . THANKS WILDBILL

Do it right the first time and take it in to an auto glass shop and have it taken out and reinstalled. Don't use what the factory used for a sealer because your window will sink.

Bill,

On my 70 SSConv. I did the following to fix some rust.

1) Remove the windshield, best done by your friendly neighborhood glass shop.

2) Clean sealer residue off of windshield frame by using a putty knife and finishing with some mineral spirits and rags.

3)Thoroughly wirebrush the rust spots.

4) Brush paint the rust spots with POR15 paint. (This stuff must coat only bare metal or rust, not paint)

5) Use POR15 2 part putty to fix any holes or craters. Sand smooth when dry.

6) Prime POR15 surface with their surface primer you can also prime old paint areas.

7) Paint with body color or semi gloss black as appropriate.

8) Have glass shop re-install windshield.

Good Luck!

How old is your windshield ??? If its the original or has been in for a lot of miles I'm sure it is pitted from dirt etc. If so, I suggest you replace the windshield verses try to reuse. You have a good chance of breaking it when it's removed anyhow.

Check into the cost of a new windshield before you do anything. I know you can get a new windshield for a 70 for $125-$140 installed. Don'tknow about 68's.

Just my .02

Do not use Buddle when you reseal the glass or your window will sink and you'll have a large space between the glass and the trim.
Use the new urathane stuff...Mark
