: Window Crank

I haven't gotten too deep into my passenger door assembly, and before I do, I'm interested in how big of a job this will be...

I drive a 71 Chevelle Malibu.

The manual window crank just spins, and once I removed it, I noticed the piece that sticks out that the crank attaches to is completely stripped. Based on the driver's side, it seems it should have some niches in it for the window crank's teeth to bite into. I need to replace that piece.

1. What's the piece called?
2. How easily accessible is that piece to get from a parts shop? Will I have to go online?
3. How intensive is the labor to get it out and replace it?

Thanks for all the help and input.

It's part of the window regulator.

Original Parts Group looks like they have what you need:

A buddy of mine helped me put all my window workings back in (after they had been out for about four years) over the course of a couple of afternnoons.

Since yours is still together, just take your time and watch were the bolts come out from. I snapped some pictures, then took them to a 1 hour photo developer (didn't need them until 4 years later but...) they were helpful.

After checking out that website (which I've never even seen before, THANKS!), it seems I need a whole new actuator :(

Oh well, it doesn't seem like a huge job. I was just hoping for a little 5 dollar part to swap out.

Thanks for the input

are you sure the teeth on the regulator aren't full of ground up material from the handle?

I had a window crank break and i bought 2 new ones because i wanted the colors to match, i had the originals on so they had a "special" color to them. but anyways, the teeth inside the crank came out much futher on the originals and the new ones the teeth stopped half way, and now they just spin freely unless i push it in to get them to grab... im not happy with this. sorry to use this thread but just seeing window crank reminded me. anyone have a solution? thanks

I'm going to pull them this weekend and see how they match up to replacements. I'll let you know how it turns out.
