Never detecting signs of any front end damage
(though possible early on) my grille center bar is not painted the same as the body. Is it possible that some came through without the center bar matching the body paint, or is it likely that the grille was replaced before my acquisition (23 years ago) and never pained to match???

I have never heard of one that was not the body color. My vote is that it was replaced.
