Here's one from a couple years ago...and yes, I did knock the camera down at the end!! My friend and his wife decided to drop by the garage and say hi, and it sorta messed up my video clip. But anyway, 3" exhaust, no crossover, Dynomax Ultra Flow ovals, turndowns at rear axle. Im not sure what cam was there at the time, there have been so many! I think it was 250/256 solid roller, 108LSA.

3 questions:

1) Do 3" pipes really emphasize the cam chop or do most of you just have very stout motors?

2) What are the louder types or flow masters? I have 40 series. Are the 50 series louder or American Thunder?

3) How much louder is a system that stops at the muffler or has very little pipe after?

Thanks Team...

What he said. It's the stock cam that comes in the zz502. I've thought about upgrading to a better cam, but just haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. I really like the Torque Tech exhaust and Violator mufflers. The Hooker super comps are nice but they hang a little too low. If I were going to change anything on the exhaust, it would be the headers.

What I'm running is a pair of Dynomax Ultraflows, 2.5 inch inlet/outlet, offset...with the Flowmaster mandrel bent pipes for the 68-72 Chevelle. The exhaust comes from a pair of Summit long tube headers that bolt to a 396 big block with a Comp XE284 cam. The rear end gear is a 4.10 with a TH350 tranny and a Hughes 3000 stall converter.

Note my car doesn't sound like Flowmasters, IMO.

Anyone else running Spintechs???

You asked for it, and now you've got it! :D Here's my '71 Chevelle that I video taped using my Motorola Sliver cell phone. It's a 391ci (but I usually call it a 388, it rolls off the tongue quite nicely LoL), it's got 9.5:1 C/R, .488" lift I/E, RPM intake, Holley 750VS carb, Bowtie heads, running thru Hedman 1 3/4" headers, muffler shop bent 2 1/2" x-pipe (and I do mean BENT!!! I'm planning on buying a mandrel bent X or modifying a Mac Prochamber! ), and out thru a pair of Spin Tech mufflers! I don't recall which Spin Techs they are, but the muffler cases are roughly 9" long or so  I hope you enjoy :)

Here is the sound of UDHarold's 501C2LUN in a 406 SB. Muffler is stock Douglas crossflow. Sound is idling and against the brake. The gas in it is over a year old. Probably time for new gas and plugs. Rusty trailer hitch adds to nostalgia look. This is the car I use for towing my bike trailer.

hehehe ok posting brought up some memories of my 1st time driving... it was the 74 vette smallblock 4 speed i think i was like 6 or 7 years old... taped 2X4s to my feet so i could reach the peddles we got out on an open stretch of road and dad was like ok its ur turn now.... so i get into the drivers seat and dad get into the pass side....i can parly see over the steering wheel hes like ok before we start the car 1st gear is here and 2nds here ect explains what clutch break and gas peddle does....ect ect ect. i push in the clutch and start the car dads over there like ok now with the clutch in push it into 1st gear and give it a little gas and let out on the clutch..... hes like ok this is going to go REALLY fast now....as soon as you do that let off the gas push in on the clutch push into 2nd let out on clutch push on gas..... so im like ok gas....to the floor.....clutch out slide foot off to the side (and yes i didnt let out on the clutch i slide my foot off the peddle)...and good god here we were doing into the ditch and dad made no attempt to grab the wheel to correct he just kept calm yelling go left go left now change gears change gears!!!!!! push in on clutch let out on gas slid into 2nd push gas to the floor slide foot off to side of clutch then i started to not be able to see from all the smoke coming into the cab from the tires dad was like WAHOOOOOO beautiful shift but we have to get moving a little more to outrun the smoke push it into 3rd gas peddle shift peddle gas the car starts to drift the other way into the right side of the ditch...dads holding the OHH ***** handle YELLING GO RIGHT GO RIGHT WAAAAAHOOOOOOO SHIFT SHIFT SHIFT!!!!!!!!!!!! shift into 4th chirping the tires befor the hooked up and off down the road we went driving to the town and befor we get there hes like alright that was great no accidents but now i wanna show you a little trick to go faster.... and since we are going to be riding around in town we really shouldnt do what we just done. ok so were going to downshift to slow down push in clutch pull into neutral let out on clutch push in clutch pull into 3rd (double clutch downshift) did shame all the way to 1st. then went all the way back up to 4th (double clutch up shift) and by the time we made it to town i was a regular mario andretti ohh my god was that the funnest thing i have EVER did in my entire life and ever since iv been double clutch shifting and out running ricers in a cloud of white smoke

and the part that sticks out the most was not only was there not trans parts and rods laying all over the road but that he didnt yell at me or on top of that never once told me i was doing anything wrong or make any attempt to grab the wheel or the shifter

sorry such a long post but when i remembered that vette that memories came floating back into my mind of the blocks on my feet burning rubber in every gear and chirping them in 4th not even in school yet

Been a few times a couple years back at the woodbridge cruise (pine valley / #7). Allotta heat (police) lately.
Know many fast car enthusiasts in the GTA (mostly vettes & velles).
Travelled north of there a few times after the show for the real show.....if ya know what I mean. What a blast.

Frank flink69ss here are some specs on the current set up, I say current cause it's about to change in the near future.

454 + .030 = 460 Cubic Inch
4" steel crank
6.135" Steel rods
TRW12.5:1 closed chamber pistons (coupled w/ 101cc 063 head)
Scotty Brown custom ground soild camshaft
cam lift - 636/595
cam duration - 259/266 installed at 108
Solid lifter w/ EDM oiling holes
Rollmaster roller chain and gear
"STOCK" 063 closed chamber large Oval port heads w/ small valves
Team G Intake
Proform 850 race carb
Performance Distributors HEI

Trans - Hutch Glide

D/Shaft - Alum.

Rear End - 9" w/ 35 spline Moser axles spool, "N" case, 4.57 ring n pinion

Rear Suspension - Anri Roll Bar, Calvert split Monos, caltarcs, rancho 9000 shocks

Front Suspension - Low friction ball joints, low friction upper / lower bushings, Moroso trick springs, lakewood 90/10 shocks

Chassis - 12 point cage w/ swingout door bars, CE weld in fames connectors w/ spring pockets.

I can give you this performance update but I will tell you its not accurate due to a fuel starvation problem and no adjustments to the chassis or suspension as of yet.

60' - 1.57
shift point - 6300 rpm about 200' short of the 1/8th then the car laid down out of gas
1/8 - 7.22 @ 95.36 mph (out of gas)
1/4 - 12.26 @ 74.65 mph

So we are hopping for some low 11's out of it this spring Lord willing.

Here's the dyno video from last summer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv_7FiZ2tuI

#'s matching 454 with a mild solid roller, full 3" exhaust, X pipe, Pypes Race Pro's, Stainless works system and Headers (2" primaries).

We only let them go to 6000. Didn't want to damage anything. Also didn't want to risk doing anything more to the motor since it's original to the car, so it's being shelved. The motor has been pulled and is being replaced with a Wolfplace 540 this spring. We'll be back to the dyno late next summer!

The hooker aero chambers in my opinion are somewhat quiet with a flowmaster type idle tone but when you jump in it w.o.t they dont have the echo tone, they are more agressive sounding i think would be the best way to describe them

Found what I wanted today, heard it on a wagon with a cammed stroker same year. mandrl bent pipes, longtubes, X pipe and large (huge) case dynomax with exh all the wayout the back. No resonance, quiet yet as the rpms go up has a clean note with a little crackle to it, perfect for stealth mode and can drive it for hours without going deaf. :beers:

I posted last January with a vid from summer, 07. Since then the motor has been replaced. It's now a 555 solid roller (built by Mike Lewis), 269/276 @ .050, .740/.711 lift and 111 lsa, afr 335's. It made 791 hp fwhp on his dyno.

This is a Dyno Jet chassis dyno vid we did here. It made just over 600 hp at the wheels at 5000 when the operator stopped graphing when max tq was reached. It was still climbing, though. It made peak hp at about 7000 on Mike's engine dyno. Discovered after the fact that we had a burned plug wire. So we figure it'd make about 650, or so, at the wheels.

Same exhaust system. 2" primaries/3" collectors (slip on) Full 3" system with electric dumps, X pipe and Pypes Race Pro mufflers.

1st pull is with the dumps closed, 2nd is with them open. Don't get the full effect since the video was shot from the front at about 20'. Son, Mike, is driving. Sounds best with the sound all the way up! :D

Electric dumps - Quick Time Performance

Stainless Works also made exhaust extensions for the dumps so the paint on the underside of the car doesn't get burned.

I see you had the car on the dyno?

how much did it make if you don't mind me asking? Joe Sherman of Joe Sherman racing engines said on another forum that those moroso mufflers are the old "auger" style, are terrible for flow and took 100hp off an engine he had them on:confused:

Also, do they sound like straight thru's? or glasspacks? and do they drone? I was thinking of getting a pair for my ride with an x pipe as well

it made 303whp/335wtq on a dynojet in 75ish degree air.
it still needs much tuning, so it shouldn't have an issue making 350whp..

yes its an auger style muffler. to me it sounds different then any muffler. not as loud as a dynomax bullet. there is zero drone inside, which is why i love them, maybe its the xpipe, but i can cruise hold a conversation at 65mph (at over 3k) with the radio on, and i have no sound deadening.

Like you said, I think you could get more power out of that setup then you did.

What kind of spintechs does your friend have? and if you don't mind, how would you describe the sound of those spiral flows? deep like a flowmaster? or raspy? also how big are you headers and exhaust?

If you have free access to that dyno ( assumin here:D) I would try running your car with those spintechs, without any mufflers and with the spiral flows as well. Like I said before Joe Sherman says those morosos ate 100hp off one of his engines (seems a bit extreme though).

100hp is a lot. i highly doubt its 100hp.
i dont have free access to dyno, so no dyno time, unless i do some other serious mods and want to see difference.
i dont remember what spintechs my friend has, they were on his 5.0 mustang, and sounded awesome with the E303 cam, some form of street mufflers..

moroso has a race car, raspy kind of, kind of deep sound to it. but i think a lot has to do with the xpipe.

headers are 1 5/8 dynomax 3" collector, to a 3 to 2.5 flowmaster slip reducer collector, to 2.5" jegs xpipe, to 2.5 moroso mufflers to 2.5" flowmaster tail pipes. all mandrel bent. im going to throw some cut outs on it this winter i hope, if i can get the funds too. so we will see.. if i can get mufflers.. ill swap them out at the track ( i run all band clamps on the entire thing).

Ya I agree, 100hp is quiteee a bit to lose from mufflers.

Well your description sounds about right, I am thinking of putting either those or violators on my car. But I really like the deepness of the morosos ( I am a bass player:D)

Okay. I tried several times to video my car with the laptop. Everytime I did it there was no sound. Except of course the test video. So here is a lousy video of the car but at least you now know what the beast looks and sounds like. Can't wait to finally get the rear end in this thing and take it for a drive. I am proud that it starts right up since it is in the 20 degree range here.

Has any one used the Flowmaster Race Muffler. I talked to one of there tech guys about using them on street and he advised me not to due the fact they are basicaly open header muffler. I told him I want loud. He said it would easily set off alarms just going by car its that loud. It has me worried that the cops will be pulling me over. Has any one used them, even on strip. Are they really that loud (open header). Thanks!

If anyone was wondering what those summit race mufflers sound like well I just put them on mine. They are real loud, maybe cause its 3 inch idk.

Well here is a short messed up video, my camera died 9 seconds in so thats all I got. Better video coming later and the ticking you hear is the collector gasket leaking  I got to get new ones.
