i finally got my car running, went to test drive it, found the power brakes dont work-i figured the vacume was a little low for it, so i temp hooked up a vac. pump i took off an old caddy diesel-it pulls over 15 lbs vac, and i wired it into the brake switch temp.-still hard pedal, will stop but just like having engine off and trying to stop-my guess is bad booster, not sure what else it could be, ck'ed everything else-a real pita to change it at this point, line lock and everything else hooked up-is there a way to test it on the car?
gonna call "the right stuff" today and see if they have a clue, i may switch to hydro boost later on

If I understand correctly you wired the vacuum pump into the brake switch so it only turns on when the brakes are applied, if this correct it would explain why they don't work. If you wait until you need the brakes to try and build vacuum you won't have enough time, the pump needs to be running all the time to maintain an adequate level of assist.

i think he said he hooked up the vacuum pump temporarily to check the booster.
if that didn't work, the booster is probably bad. taking it out of there shouldn't be too bad- if there is enough slack in your brake lines, you can just unbolt the master from the booster and let it hang out of the way without unhooking the lines at all.

talked to doug at "the right stuff", he thinks its a bad booster, gonna send a new one out right away, great guy to deal with-i would lay my foot on the pedal just enough to turn on the vac pump, then hit the brakes, booster never pumps up-i found out a company that has an elect pump kit, with a pres valve to shut off the pump so i wouldnt have to wire into the brake light switch(that was just a temp thing for trouble shooting)
