just got my first hvlp question is how do i set the pressure ?
i have a reg at the gun if i set it to 30 psiat the gun then pull the trigger it drops to about 10 psi,,is that right?
is that to much line drop or in general what do i do?
thanks for your time

If you have that much pressure drop when you pull the trigger you either have way too small of a hose (5/16 min 3/8 prefered) or too many couplings or regs or cheater valves or something. OR, you simply don't have the amount of CFM required to use that gun. The "HV" in HVLP is "High Volume". You may need as much as 15 CFM to operate that gun, that is a LOT of volume and many home compressors simply don't have it.
So first step, what compressor do you have? Second, what kind of plumbing do you have? Third, what hoses and couplings do you have?

Do you have another regulator at the compressor? If so, what do you have that set to? You may want to up the pressure at the tank regulator and let the regulator at the gun knock it down to the pressure you want for spraying.
If I don't regulate the pressure at the compressor and allow full pressure into the line to the HVLP gun, the pressure gauge on the regulator (SATA) at the gun will read 150 psi or more before pulling the trigger. Once I pull the trigger, the gauge drops to whatever I have the regulator at the gun set to (usually 20 to 30 psi). Depending on the gun I suppose, 20 to 30 lbs seems to work well.

i cranked it up and reset the gun reg with the rigger pulled no probs now
thanks for the input
