Are there supposed to be supports at the rear corners of the hood to keep it at the right "level" so that it matches with the surrounding body panels? I thinking something like the front of the hood sits on? The center ridge of the hood fits fine but the two outboard rear corners are about 1/4" low with respect to the surrounding body.

Lance,
I purchased a Rubber bumper kit from Year one. It has several rubber pieces for the body including the hood. I believe the part number is CC5166 which is correct for my 66 Chevelle. As far as your hood saging 1/4 inch I would think your hood hinges also need some adjusting. Good Luck.

On a 66 the only thing the hood should touch at the rear is the cowl to hood seal that slips over the leading edge of cowl grille just in front of where it fastens down. Agree could need additional adjusting @ hinges. Do a search for one of MARTINSR's post on fitting front sheetmetal. If all gaps are good and hood is even with fenders at sides maybe the hood corners are bent slightly, If the hood has been off & bounced around the storage area, it is possible good luck! Karl

Thanks for the replies but... If I raise the hinges it will just raise the entire rear edge of the hood thereby making the center of the rear edge above the cowl grill. I think the problem is that it's an aftermarket hood and just a peice of junk. Expensive lesson.....It's gonna end up in the dumpster! Has anybody tried the Goodmark GM replacement part hood with success???

The 66SS hood came with that defect from the factory.
If you adjust the rear so the corners are level with the cowl, the hood will bow up about 1/8" above the fenders in the middle. The curvature of the hood does not match the curvature of the fenders. This is the case on both original & aftermarket hoods.
What I did with mine was to adjust the hinges & front stops to get the bow hieght at about 1/8", then I readjusted the hinges to lower the rear of the hood & split the difference, this is about the best that can be done unless you go and do some major metal reworking to the hood. Some 66 hoods & fenders line up better than others, but I guarantee that 90% of the 66SS's out there have this issue.

I have a 67 SS aftermarket hood and I'm ashamed to even close the thing. It fits at the rear in the middle of the cowl but the rear corners are down a 1/4 inch. Standing at the side of the car, with the hood shut, you can see the darn valve cover because of the bow in the hood. I bought it from a Chevelle suppler (Ausl%%'s)with a guarante but they refuse to refund my money.

I know the feeling 67_shovel. All I can do is look at the thing and say to myself "Well that hood won't be on there long". Expensive lesson !
