This may sound stupid but I just got to ask. Is the trim on the dash chrome over plastic or just silver paint. I was trying to clean up my dash and the silver/chrome just started to come off. It didn't peal off like chrome would. I tried liquid compound on a small spot and it rubbed off like paint. Now that being said can anyone recommend a refurbishing guy for the dash.

The dash is "vacuum metallized" with chrome, then painted over with the black. The metallization is very thin and fragile and will rub off easily after 38 years. I used www.autoinstruments.com others have used www.cvvacuumplating.com www.mrgusa.com
Go to the interiors and restoration forums and search using "dash chrome" for criteria and you'll get a lot of info.
