have put alot of money and time in the body on this car, so far i have relaced both Q-pannells w/NOS and both fenders w/NOS but my right fender just aint quite rite, what i have is a lineup problem at the hood seam, i can get all lines correct but it is lower than the hood in the middle of the fender but not frt & back, i bolted the old fender on just to make sure my hood didnt get bent and its defanatly in the new fender, has anyone found this problem before with a NOS piece and can it be repaired, bolt ajustment is not working!!!!, unfortunatly the fender was jamed out already and cant be returned,,,
any help is appreciated

Unfortunately, almost all of the remaining NOS parts out there are the bottom of the barrel. The good ones have been picked through the last thirty years. Use a straight line to measure the differences. I hate to say it, but, the one way to 'fix' this dilema is to fill to top of the fender to acheive the correct lines. Either that or repair your original. Maybe someone else has a better idea. ??

well i would consider filling but i have built this car completely MUD FREE so far and i hate to turn to the dark side now, but i did bite the bullett and ordered another NOS fender this morning but all i can do is hope for the best when it gets here, but i defanantly wont put paint on it until i have fitted it and all is good, still would like to hear if anyone elce knows a fix for this problem or if anyone elce has had this much HELL from a NOS body pannell Thanks

I have a cowl induction hood for a 70 that's NOS, and about 15 years old. It had several places where I had to weld the inner panel to the outer because they didn't do a good job. I guess this stuff was made by humans, with a quota to meet, even back then.

There is a post on the Camaro site about the same with camaro oem fenders. Our factory guru, John Z explained that the fenders were put in some type of jig and spot welded together, but replacement parts were assembled at a different location and there are some problems with fit of the factory oem sheetmetal. Someone had a solution of adjusting the hood with a towel wrapped 2x6, I know very scarry, but better than a load of "Bodymaninacan" http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Go over and do a search

Bought NOS '70 Chevelle fenders some years ago also. The support part of on one of the fenders was spot welded incorrectly thus raising the height of the fender above the edge of the hood whan bolted in place. Couldn't figure out initially what the problem was since it is a NOS piece and I figure it was going to fit like a glove. Probably need to remove spot welds, reposition and reweld. Paint the a$$, but has to be done. Used a cherry fender from one of my other parts car instead. Will reweld the NOS peice later and keep stashed away. It is an excellent fender in all other respects.
