This is my 12 bolt with a 4 series carrier and thin 3.73 gears. Freddie or others. The coast is basically centered between the heel and toe but closer to the face of the gear. The drive is a bit closer towards the heel and again closer to the face of the gear. Do you think I need to add a bit to the pinion shim?? Backlash is at .009. I should also add that this is being done with old pinion bearings honed out to slide on and off with minimal force. My neighbor with the press isn't home right now so I thought I would get started this way.

I increased the pinion shim another .008 for a total of .051. The second pattern group was at .043 and the first .038.

The first set of pictures looks the best. The .051 is way too deep, and .043 is too deep too. Try going to about .036 and see what happens.

I will try it. I thought in the first pictures the pattern was too close to the face. Thats why I kept moving the pinion closer.

Thanks Freddie
