Hi everyone,
I have a 1966 Malibu which is getting a 454 in the near future. This engine will have between 450-500 HP. I want to put a Muncie 4-speed behind this big block, but very much want some advice one which Muncie to use. Would an M-22 be the best choise for this power plant?

Thanks,
Brian

If your gonna run any type of sticky tire or slick, It's the best choice.
If your gonna stay with regular street tires than it's more of a question of gearing.

what are your plans & what rear gears are ya gonna run?

I'd rather have an M20
Best gear for a 450-500 HP 454 running a 4 speed is 3.73's
JMHO and experience.

My plans are to replace the 10 bolt with a 12 bolt. As far as gears go, Mr. 4 Speed was reading my mind, the 3.73 were my choice. I don't do a lot of racing any more but would like the option of I wanted to. I guess my biggest concern is streetability, then trackability. Where I live, you just can't do these cars as drivers, but want to have an easy shifiting transmission. If there isn't any difference in the drivability of the M-20 and the M-22, I'd go with the M-22. Mr. 4-speed, why do you like the M-20 over the M-22? Thanks fella's,
Brian

M-22 have close ratio gearing. A long first gear and close increments there after, kinda like a dirtbike. I agree with MR4SPEED 100%. m-22's are very expensive and noisy also. I just installed a super t-10 with a 243 first gear but haven't driven it yet. I hope I can still pound the gears like my muncies.

On the other hand there is the M22W now, gives you the first gear of the M20 and the "noisey whine" that so many guys want.:)

Another option now is the close ratio wide box, I like this option.

Where would any of you advise me to look for a dealer with a good reputation for Muncies? All of you have been a great help, thanks.
