: Side window trim problem

The chrome trim on one of the rear side window has come loose on my 69. This is the chrome piece that holds the rubber seal between the front and rear side windows on a HT. There seems to be something like black butyl on it now, but that stuff is too hard to form and press into the groove, so I would like to find something else. I was thinking about using epoxy first, but I suspect that it may shrink and crack the glass. Then I was thinking of using clear silicone, but it's usually a bit messy to work with. Does anyone have any ideas?

Come on now... surely enough there's someone who has done this?

Go to a glass shop and ask for butyl tape. Use mineral spirits for lubricant. Let it dry, then trim with a razor blade. A little messy but cleans up easily.

When you get the butyl tape, it comes in several thicknesses. I got a couple different sizes and used the size that held it snug, but I was still able to lightly tap the chrome on with a rubber mallet.

I didn't know that butyl tape came that thin. I have tried to shape the thicker variety, but it just looked like crap. I'll check with the glass shop. Thanks!

use some urethane windshield adhesive and it will stay on forever
