: Inner Rocker Panel

How do most people replace their inner rocker panels on a 67 SS? I have found that the outer panel is reproduced, but I can not find anyone who reproduces the inner rocker.
It looks like this piece would not be too hard to fabricate. 72" long 5" high with a 90 degree 1" bend at the top. I was interested to see if anyone replaced these before and how did they go about getting the replacement.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't know if this is the correct name of the part but I am talking about the L ahaped piece of sheet metal that welds to the back side of the rocker panel. The piece that encloses the back side of the rocker.

sgaylord, That piece you need must be straight or very close to it, any sheet metal shop should be able to brake (bend) that for you.

Why cant you just go down to your local metal yard and get that panel made, not hard to make at all. Most yards that Ive been in have machines that can punch holes and bend metal in all sorts of shapes.

I just peiced mine together with some 24 guage sheetmetal.. With the exception for my massive welds you couldn't tell the difference! You can bend yourself. Just tack the top portion in well and hammer the rest down. It doesn't look too bad, and noone will ever see it unless they have a fiberoptic camera http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Thanks Guys,

I talked to a shop that said they will make this for me @ a rate of $40.00 per hour. He also said his brake is only 66" long and the piece I need is 72". So he said he will weld it together therefore adding more time to the fab. He said it SHOULD take 1.5 to 2 hour to make these so is $80 too much for them?

What are ya'll talking about? I have some repro rockers and all of the rocker seems to be there. From inside where the sill plate goes all the way round to the pinch weld on the bottom of the rocker.Even where it welds to the floor pan.

supersport396_2000,

The repro rocker I have only has the outer part. Check out the pic in the link. The part labeled "This part" is where the inner rocker goes and it runs from one end to another with a 1" lip at the top bending back towards the inside of the car.

Does this part stay open at both ends?

Thanks,
Steve

If you live close to a commercial roofing company, they will have the metal and breaks large enough to fabricate that piece. Shouldn't take more than 3 minutes total to fab.

find a different sheet metal shop, one that has a long enough break
most HVAC shops that do new construction will have one

the problem might be finding one that has heavy enough gauge metal so you might need to bring your own

If you cut it to size yourself (maybe from an old hood) it will probably only take them about 10 minutes to make it
