I am inthe process of putting my 67 back together and I am unshure if the parts are fitting correctly. The question I have is where the trunk lid meets the tail panel there is a slight overhang, but the overhang is less in the center that on the ends near the Q panel. Is this the way it should be ? The tail panel is pushed as far back as it can go and the overhang in the middle over the key hole loos good but it is less than where the tail meets the quarter panels, the gap is consistant on both sides shold it be this way or is something not right? I just want to be sure before I finish welding it in, its only tacked right now.

here is a pic showing the gap

thanks in advance for your help !

Auto, I dont have an excat answer for you but am sure someone with more knowledge on 66-67's can help out. Since the quarter is tacked and held in place, I would fit the quarter exts and see how they look in relation to the deck lid, tailpan and quarters. You might find out that the gap is there for a reason.

If the gap is not might to be there, what you can do is tweak the panel,as every panel NOS, used or aftermarket needs to be tweaked in someway to fit YOUR car properly.

The way I would do this is slightly bend it. Start by bracing the tailpanel in the middle by the keyhole with your knee. Since this will hold the middle of the panel and not allow it to bend. Now grap the affected area with both hands and lightly pull it back, dont just try to force all at once. Make a pull then check the fit, you might need to do a few pulls to make it fit right. Once fitted do the other side.

Also clamp the tailpanel and quarter together and also the tailpanel to the rest fo the floor, very good as this will hold everyhing in place and make for a better tweak
