Can anyone recomend decent towns to live in on the west side of Atlanta? A friend is an average 40 something caucasian guy and his wife and kid and a decent income but not rich by any means and is looking at a job down there. Kennesaw looks like it might be okay. Any body that knows the Atlanta area have any suggestions for someone working on the Southwest side?

Thanks

Kennesaw is North of Atlanta . You would have a long drive if you worked on the Southwest side. I would look at Fairburn, Tyrone,Union City or Peachtree City.

I live next to Kennesaw in North Marietta (still Cobb county) but work south of the city of Atlanta...about a 36 mi commute each way. Not bad at the time of day that I travel.
FYI...Cobb Co. has one of the best school systems in the country.

Like Bill, I live in Marietta (Cobb County). I've lived in metro Atlanta for 22 years now, and Cobb seems to have the best combination of low taxes/decent schools/decent government services in the area.

"Southwest side" is kind of vague...do you have any more specific information about where he will be working?

Guys:

Thanks for the input it is great to hear good news. The work address is 445 Great Southwest Parkway, Atlanta so I think it is about a 30 mile commute from Kennesaw. I welcome additional feedback.

From the map location you might be better off looking in Douglasville/Villa Rica Powder Springs, Austell. The areas above would be quite a commute down busy highways. You want to get west of Mableton.

Alphareta is very nice. Been there to visit a friend. It is NW of Atlanta.

I work in Alpharetta, and yes, it is nice. Would be a horrible commute to SW Atlanta though.

As mentioned above, either west Cobb County (Austell, Mableton) or Douglasville (Douglas County) might be good places to look. If you can afford it, Vinings/Smyrna might be nice as well.

In and around Atlanta you calculate distance by time not miles. I work all over metro Atlanta and a 30 mile commute could take 30 mins or a hour and 30 mins depending on the area and time of day.Not trying to discourage you , Kennesaw is a great place to live. I have a lot of friend that live there.

Yeah I have heard the traffic can be pretty bad that is why I am asking. I have been web searching the data on different towns in the area I (I mean my friend) really like the dempgraphics, crime statistics, schools, median house value, median age of population etc of Kennesaw more than most of the other towns, and am concerned about the commute if my friend gets offered a job there. If he was to leave around 6 in the morning would he beat the heavy morning traffic?

Thanks

Nah...not that bad. :( I've traveled that route on I-75 south straight thru town in the AM and back northbound in the afternoon for 20 years. Just got home, in fact.
Unless there's a wreck or it's raining my usual commute is about 40-45 minutes.
