Any of the HR guys here ever seen a bluetooth compatable unit? Thinking it would be good for a mobile rig

Thanks

I haven't seen one yet. I've been looking at portable/mobile hr's a little bit lately. I'm studying for the technician exam, and actually just took a break from reading the book to check on team chevelle! Do you have a license?

A guy I work with just got his license, and he's installing a radio in his truck. I'll ask him tomorrow if he's seen anything that's blutooth compatible.

That would be interesting! I'm contemplating getting my ticket again. I was a general class for about 15 years, but that was like 22 years ago. I let it expire, that was stupid...now I have to do it all over. I see they lightened up on the code requirements a lot! I was on the other night just listening to CW and copying it down...I was rusty at first, but I was surprised at how quickly it came back to me.

I haven't seen any ads yet for bluetooth capable rigs. Yeah, dropping the code requirements for HF will let techs on 10m, but they'll still have to pass the written tests to get more bands. I'm a General now, need to study up so I can get my Extra class...before my buddy locally gets his :)

Yup, nocode tech for about 10 years now. I got it to chat with friends before cell phones made it more or less free. Bought a new dualbander to install in the new/used car in a few weeks and got thinking about how Bluetooth would mkae it a lot easier to use

Did a lot of googleing last night and can't find anything that would work. Kinda suprizing as I'd figure this would be one of the technologies on the fore front of making use of it. There's been vox mic's for years and this is the next step in that progression

Anyways, new radio arrived today so it'll give me something to play with this weekend

Whad'ya get??? :)

You need to try using Echolink. Lets you talk as far as you want on VHF/UHF if you have a node station nearby. I used it when I was in Ohio to talk to a buddy in NJ on 2m. Neat stuff.

On the advice of my Father, who's a total Ham geek (Extra Class, etc) and has 2 of them already, I got this ($280)

I'll put the base under the seat and remote the head someplace on the dash. There's a cubby under the Stereo so probably in there somehow

Looks like a sweet rig! Do you have any experience using a hand-held? I've wondered if a handheld with an external car-roof mount antenna would work as well as a dedicated mobile unit. I'd guess it wouldn't work as well, but maybe the differences are small?

Don't own a hand held, just 2 mobiles (1 in the house on a 12v power supply) I think that power output would be about the only differnece. Sid probably knows more about this

Bumping this back to the top - anyone know if such a beast exists yet?
