I was recently told by the bodyshop that painted my car to only use polish and not wax on my new PPG basecoat/clearcoat paint job. Anyone ever heard of this?
I always understood that wax was to "protect" the finish.

You really should talk directly to them to see what they mean.
That said, I believe they just want you to wait until the paint cures before waxing it.

I have heard it the last few times i have had car parts painted They said to not wax that part for a month or so to let it fully cure...
Don't know the science behind it, but since i had paid a lot of money, i took their advice and didn't wax it during that time...
They also told me that for the first couple months under no circumstances put a car cover over it for and leave it outside, the cover would hold in moisture...

stay away from the wax on new paint, 3M makes a polish that can be used as a substitute for wax on fresh paint-this is probably what the shop is referring to. A good indication of when paint is completely rid of evaporating solvents is when water is applys it will sheet instead of bead--usually 30 days. If you apply glazes and or a polish the water test won't work.
