Well i have kinda been on a hiatus with my Chevelle. Its in storage now since i had to go to an apartment and I havent done anything on :( But I am starting to get more into body work and am in need of a gun. Heres the scoop and sorry for the lenght.

Well I am pretty new to auto body work and I am probably going to make things a PITA because I dont have the best stuff to work with and probably need to have 1 thing do everything well(yeah right) but please point me in the right direction. I'll try to keep it short but give you guys all the info I can.

I am new to painting/bodywork, I have done some painting(about to do BC/CC for the first time this weekend, yikes!) and have thrown some patch pannles in things but nothing really major. I am starting to do some bodywork for the my dads fleet and have decided that with all the painting I will be doing a HVLP will save itself the cost in material saved. Some trucks, tractors, dumptrucks and the like. I also have 2 Chevelles that if I ever get around to finishing i would like to paint. The shop has a fairly large stand-up 175 psi 220v compressor that has black pipe running all over the place to hook ups for the hose. I will be spraying a wide variety of paint, from BC/CC to enamel. I assume enamal on tractors and dumptrucks since BC/CC is kinda costly and I aint painting showcars, just trying to make em look deccent. Correct in wanting to shoot enamal?

Should I have a seperate primer gun? I have a budy that has painted some stuff and he says I should, I can also pick up a used conventional Binks for not much if I was going to go seperate guns. I am thinking I can get by fine on 1 with some additional tips.

I have been looking at Binks and Devilbiss but really dont know what I need. Sharp also seems pretty well liked by you guys. If you guys could give me any recomendations or advice I would really appreciate it. And any idea on what it should cost and if there are any other things i should buy and what they will run me. Am I going to be able to get by with spending 250 or so?

Is a HVLP really a good idea? Will it save me the paint on all this big stuff i will be doing? I dont care about EPA stuff since it is just going to be done outa my dads shop.

Any good books or things I need to pick up? I've been reading alot of Martin's stuff from when he first came here as well as alot of you other guys stuff. You guys published anything yet ;)

[/QB]That's the most pathetic thing I have heard here in awhile. Why don't you go and pour some motor oil down the storm drains while you're at it:rolleyes:

I dont pour oil down stormdrains.....there is a stream out back thats much closer.

The meaning behind that coment was that I dont operate a large shop in downtown LA that is watched by the EPA and will force me to buy and operate a certian compliant gun. I want(or think I do) a HVLP for less overspray and cost savings of less wasted paint, the environmental angle dosnt mean anying to me. I guess everyone shooting with a conventional gun burns down the rainforest for fun in thier spare time though?

A Devilbiss GTI 620s a good gun? Too much gun? I kinda like that it comes with 3 tips and everything for 330$.

I know I'm asking for oppinions that are pretty much along the lines of should i buy a ford or a chevy.

Thanks guys smile.gif
