: Shifter Mountings on a M20-M22

I have a 72 chevelle with a center console. It has a non-stock 4-speed muncie dated 3851325 casting (64-65)(M20-21), and a tail housing 3857584 (67-72).
I'm replacing the shifter (hurst?) with a new hurst competition plus. I've got a new one but for a 72'(M22). Mounting is alittle different between the old and new.
Mounting kit is ordered for the new one. Comparing the old shifter and new, the shifter arms are alittle different lengths. First question, are the mountings that much different between the M20 to M22 castings? Secondly, will the different length arms (.25-50") cause trouble for sufficient shifter stroke?
I know this will probably be fit & function when I assemble. Needing alittle more info.... Thanks

I bet you old shifter is a Muncie not a Hurst.

The different length arms won't cause any significant problems. The problem could be with the way the arms mount to the trans. If I have this correct the early trans' use a stud and nut to mount the shift arms. The later trans' use a bolt. The slot in the shifter arms is longer on the bolt style. Hurst makes an adapter to use the longer slot arms on the stud and nut type trans but they may be a little hard to find. I think they are called "batwing washers". Do a search for username "crash" or "crash enterprises". He has more Hurst parts than anyone I know of.

Thanks for your help.
I should be getting the mounting kit any day now. I'm hoping if this new kit doesn't fit 100% correct. Maybe a mix-match of new and old can get me thru.
I know my muncie has a bolt for the reverse link arm, and nuts/stud for 1-2 and 3-4 link arms. I'm mainly needing the kit for mounting bracket for the shifter. The rest of the linkage, I guess will be a trial fit & function.
