If 1/2 are counter rotating the steering would be neutral. I'd like to try it if someone else was paying for the gas.

Doesn't look like you could get much steering out of that thing - the engines look like they'd hit each other if you try to turn very far...

Its very well possible I have seen a drug boat here that had 6- 250 engines on it. They were just as close together as the ones on that picture. The coast guard shot some of the engines of the boat from a helicopter with a .50 cal machine gun because they had a hard time trying to catch them.
They said the boat was atleast going 155 mph loaded.

Yes that more or less the story I heard on this .the speed was incredible , I heard well over 165 and although they saw it on radar had no way of catching it brought in a fast helicopter to tract it ...... I like the pic of those 8 engines ......helps me withthe wife when she cant understand why we need more power on our boat :)

My friend has a 40 foot boat that will go 160mph and let me tell you even on that boat will scare the crap out of you makes you feel you are going 200+ on the water.

The thing I have to wonder on the multi engine setup shown above where the 8 motors are so close together...I can't see how all the props would be able to get a sufficient "bite" in the water. I think some would aerate and free rev. I guess I'm doubting the efficiency of all that HP on tap.
That thing would make a hellava bass boat! ;)

While living in the Florida keys I saw many a confiscated drug boat and even a homemade submarine. Those druggys are pretty sneaky. I think the biggest reason for multiple engines is the shooting from behind that could leave them stranded.
They're usually caught pretty close to shore, so one single engine could get them to land for escape.
The DEA often used the confiscated boats for patrolling after confiscating them. Many were painted completely in flat black. A friend of mine was in the Sherrif's office drug ops unit. They would often scope out the landing points at night and wait for them there. They used a small skiff for the very slow 5 mile trip to shore. One had a small Honda four stroke with a huge cover over the engine to quiet down. The exhaust was routed about three feet under water using rubber hose. He said you couldn't hear it running from three feet away! Sneaky sneaky! I do miss going on bale patrol.........You never know what you would find floating around down there!
