I have an HVLP gun that i use all the time at work with great results. When i try to use it at home with my 6.5 60 gallon compressor it seems like i cant get enough air through it.I tried a smaller diameter hose, that helped a little and a shorter hose helps but cant get around a car.my old non HVLP sprays fine, plenty of pressure.is it that the HVLP needs more air pressure to atomize?i'm considering the Devilbiss finsih line gun, that advertises it only needs 9.9 cfm.anybody tried this gun.how is it.

What you need is more VOLUME, the V in HVLP. The small hose actually hurt you, the fact that you shorted it is what helped. I have found that the Sharpe Platinum has the lowest CFM requirments and it has worked great in my home shop.

If you don't have the volume, it jsut won't break up the paint, that is all there is to it.

martinsr, I just bought a Sharpe HVLP Platnium and a 998 Pressure feed.. They have a refurb program where they sell repops for HALF the price of new.. if you go to the website www.sharpe1.com (http://www.sharpe1.com) they have plenty info and docs you can read and a message board "Ask Dr. Gun" with an older gentleman who really knows his stuff.. good luck painting http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I use the devilbiss gun with great results. They do sell different needle assys for different viscositys.
I'm going through a 5hp-30 gallon comp.
I do use a 5/8 hose for my supply air. What ype of paint are you shooting through it at work? Are you thinning the mixes properly? Kind of curious because I have all the volume I can handle.
