: Shaved Firewall?

This is more of a suggestion than a question, but here goes. Okay, do your engine compartment a favor and fill in those unsightly factory dings. I'm not sure wether to use fiberglass or bondo, so I used both. It'll get coated with a quater inch of epoxy, so I don't think there will be any cracks. I also grinded/filled in those stupid firewall pad clip holes that stick out. The firewall pad will be HUNG from the inside with some welded-on wire clips. Just a reminder; nothing is perfect. The firewall itslf is uneven and only so much of it will be seen. If it's behind a fender, there's obviously no point in filling it in. The firewall looks a lot better painted the same color as the car. A lack of wiring also makes the engine compartment look really nice(so does a lack of air conditioning, but that's a little extreme). Hide the heater hoses and front light harness behind the fenderwells. Keep the engine harness as LOW as possible. Also, one-wire alternators and remote solenoid help out here. Ya don't want a bunch of stuff coming off of or going to the motor. Keep it as simple as possible. Just about all new model cars (and even '84 Mustangs)have so many hoses/wire looms, my Uncle has come to the conclusion that extra hoses not even going to anything are just stuck on the firewall for looks (or better yet, to frighten people away). http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Okay, maybe not a quarter inch. You'll have a better chance of sanding a hole in the fender before sanding through all that. After a while, it just gets lumpy. It'll still really get lathered on, but not so much that the engine won't fit.

I just put an 85 TPI motor in my 65 Elky. Aint no way I can hide all those wires.

The cool thing is when your friends look at a "complicated" motor like a TPI, with your lap top on the front seat and all those wires running everywhere, they think you're a mechanical genius.

I just let go and wired the heck out of it. Zip ties everywhere. Big fat insulation on the fuel lines. Two big holes in the firewall for the EFI harness.

When I lay a burn out a mile long, it won't matter how many wires are showing. I say function over form. Make the outside look pretty. Make the engine go.

Function and Form should be balanced. I know ways to hide those wires. Colored looms, different sensor locations, etc. I have an LS1 conversion in the works for my '94 S10. Too bad the whole deal will cost about $10,000 http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif
