I got my body off the frame on the Thurdays night. www.chevelles.com/showroom/bodyoff.jpg (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/bodyoff.jpg)
The chassis can now be rolled out. Next step is to get the body on a rotisserie.

Thats exactly how mine is but I'm done with the frame now.Its been that way well over a year now.I'm tring to decide if I want to put it back on or do the lower half of the body work first.Get the frame steam cleaned first that will save time blasting.Good luck. I posted a little late hopfully you will see it.

Thanks Ed. I'm just about done taking parts (fuel lines, brake lines, shocks, swaybars etc.) off the frame. This weekend I hope to unbolt the rear end and front controls arms/spindles.

Curious how you got your chevelle up on those stilts. Did you just use a floor jack and then add a brick on each side?

what is the proper way to lift the body off like that? Do you jack it from the underside?

I'm not saying that this is the best or proper way, but it worked for me. I jacked the body up from the underneath using a floor jack and some wood. I used a piece of 2X4 as long as I could that would fit between the frame rails. In the front I placed the 2X4 against the floor brace that is near the back of the trans tunnel. In the back I placed the 2X4 against the supports under the trunk floor. I alternated from back to front one block at a time. When the jack was at max height I used an 18" long piece of landscape timber and formed at 'T' with the 2X4. At the front, I rolled the jack in from the side. I just went straight in, in the back.

Thats how I got mine off, although I placed the 4x4's under the quarters. Then I built a dolly so i could move it outside to work on it. I blasted the underside and painted it semi gloss black. Frame is done, engine, trans rear end, lines, ect . I hope to get the engine fired up, then drop the body back on the frame this summer.
Here is a few pics:

Hey Mike, is it very hard to move the body around on the dolly? The wheels don't look all that big.

Nice looking frame and engine, btw!!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The body actually moves aroud very easily. In the garage whel the floor is smooth. it actully moves too easy. When I get it on the driveway that has a rough surface, it still is not that hard to move around by myself. The only time I have any trouble is when it hits an expansion joint in the driveway. It sure makes it easy to clean up the underside without paying a lot for a rotisserie. When I'm done with it I can just chop it up and its out of the way.
