Does a rebuilt Grand Cherokee box even come close to a Lee box ,or is the Lee worth the money?

Just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend...

Actually, probably depends on the rest of your steering/suspension setup (or future plans).

How much is the "Lee" box?

I bought an AGR box (through Summit), and was very happy... It was the quick ratio, new (or mostly new) parts (not just a typical rebuild). The "T-bar" was stiffer than whats typically offered on any OEM box (I liked the tighter feeling). Best of all, the box was configured to use the "stock" Chevelle rag joint and the "stock" hoses (I had already replaced both previously)... Happy medium???

They have used Nascar Lee 12:1 boxes on E-bay for $260 + $43 shipping.

Lee builds and dynos each box for its intended use. Tom Lee`s forgotten more about steering gear than most whole companies will ever know. Be cautious about using a NASCAR box intended to work at an average of 7000RPM on a street car cruising at 2000RPM. I`d be willing to bet that they`re valved totally different.Tom would know. The big difference between a factory Jeep box and a Lee 12.7 box is feel. Lee spends a LOT of time dynoing each box and tweaking the flow rates to get the best road feel and feedback. Some folks will really appreciate it and the price will be a genuine bargain. Some folks won`t be able to tell the difference (most drag racers,my mother in law etc.) and may as well leave the old stock box in the car.
The 670 Series 12.7:1 boxes save some space and weight and go for $515, the std. 800 Series size boxes in 12.7:1 are $415. Yes you can get an AGR or some other brands for less but in my experience they`re usually no better than a decent factory box. Mark SC&C
