: Rodent prevention durring storage
greenchevy Mar 19th, 07, 12:18 PM I have an all original 1972 4dr Chevelle that I plan to keep in my shed/garage for up to 6 months maybe more with little or no activity in the building. I know for a fact that mice had been frequent unwanted guests in the shed/garage in the not so distant past. All advise on the matter of preparing my car for storage is much appreciated. Thank You.:D
Chris Stanwyck Mar 19th, 07, 12:30 PM I have always kept a couple of traps and those little green cubes of mice poison that they eat and die from. Every year I kill a couple in traps and others show signs of feastin on the green cubes.
A good defense is a good offence.
72Elky Mar 19th, 07, 12:39 PM I sometimes wonder if it's simply better to store your ride under a carport with a cover/tarp instead of inside a barn/garage. When I went off to college, my Elky was stored in a barn, and my 88' Bronco II was stored right next to the barn, on the outside. They were both out there for the same amount of time (a couple of years), in the same location, albeit one inside the barn, and the other outside. Guess which one the mice got to.... :(
1968SS427 Mar 19th, 07, 3:21 PM I have been using fabric-softener sheets (any brand) and never had a problem. I put two sheets under the front and two under the back seat.....(one on each side), two in the trunk and one on the rear of the intake manifold. It keeps the mice away and the interior smells fresh in the spring.

Fun 71 Mar 19th, 07, 7:57 PM A good friend of mine in the used auto business puts moth balls under the seat and in the glove box, etc. It works, but it does make things smell pretty bad. I like the fabric softner idea, maybe a combination of that, the moth balls and Irish Spring soap would have those critters so confused, they wouldn't want to stay!!! I will try it, I bought an old goat(yeah I know, not a Chevelle) and I need to put it out to pasture while my Chevelle is in my shop.
Chris R Mar 20th, 07, 3:49 AM Here is another good post to help with this.

At least it should keep the mice regular. :D
My65CaliWagon Mar 21st, 07, 9:29 PM When we lived at our old place, there were stray cats between the bulidings for years. Finally, neighbors got fed up and one by one they were eliminated. The new problem? MICE! I don't like cats, but they're better than mice. I think if they are fixed & declawed, they would make good guardians for your car.
