Having seen so many bright red '69 Chevelles for what seems like ever since they were new, I always assumed that a bright red like that on the '70 was a regular color choice for the Chevelle in 1969. It wasn't until recently, (like, today) that I realized that I don't see anything on the color code list brighter than code 52 Garnet Red. This, I consider to be a dark red, but it seems like the only one for that year. If I'm not mistaken, there was a bright red for '68, or maybe it's the same thing where they were repainted that color. Can anyone set me straight on this? Was there a factory option for a bright red, or was garnet the only one?
Thanks,
Rich

Garnet Red was the only red available as a std color in '69. It's not a "bright" red but sort of a dark red with an orangish hue to it. There was a Burgundy color in '69 but was far from a "bright" red. IMO Garnet Red was probably the most inaccurately copied factory color ever. Yes Matador Red in '68 was a bright red and Cranberry Red in '70 was sort of a bright red but is also inaccurately copied quite a bit.

Thanks for the response Von, I'm leaning towards something more like Matador red for my '69, but I'll probably go with something I really like and that is the bright red used on current Dodge Dakota and Durango trucks. Innaccurate, yes, but man does it look racy!
Thanks,
Rich

Viper red is bright. No orange in it.
