Hi all. any help would be great!
I just purchased a Dynacorn hood, The car has Goodmark fenders that fit great, and new GM hinges. I've been going nuts trying to adjust this hood for about a week now, and finally decided to loosen the hinge to fender bolts and close the hood, while checking for clearance as it goes down, with a flashlight through the grill opening. The hood definitely hits the firewall, on what I think is called the pinchweld. Keeping the rear of the hood about 1/2 inch above the fenders, with absolutely no wieght on the hinges.

When trying to adjust the hinges, in the forward up position, the hood will bind, and not close all the way, and lifting the rear of the hinges only lifts the rear of the hood even higher.

Comparing this hood with the damaged original, using a straight edge accross, from underneath, and measuring the depth in the center, at the rear filler piece for the dome, the original hood has about 1/2 more clearance than the aftermarket. This is the area that hits.
Has anyone had this problem before?
Thanks,
Terry

You may have to oblong the the hood hinge bolts holes were it mounts to the fender. I've also seen guys put shims between the hinge and the hood to raise it.

Martin Sr. did a great write up on hood adjustments. You should do a search under his name or "hood adjustments"

Jim,
even with the hinges removed, it still sits 1/2 inch high in the rear, with wood blocks holding the front in position. I have read martinsr's great post's,
and agree that all of them have been very helpful ( thanks again martinsr) but this doesn't seem to be an adjustment issue.
I'm leaning towards cutting out the hood inner structure, grinding away the clearance I need, then rewelding the pieces back. I'm not real sure how else to approach this, but appreciate everyone's input.
Thanks again,
Terry

1) you heat the hood brace up and reform the brace? 2) contact dynacorn and see if this past problem and has been fixed. 3)Send it back and wait and find a good gm hood (I thought there was one in the classified here on TC) a couple of weeks ago.

Just looked theres a goodmark for $150.00 and a nos for $1500.00 (ouch) in the classifieds section

It's not your hinges or fenders its the hood.

I just went through the EXACT same thing on my new Non-Functional Cowl hood from Goodmark (probably made at the same chinese or taiwan factory). Mine was hitting the firewall on the center brace that runs right over the firewall area keeping mine from going down. The back sat up ~1/2". Crappy repops in my opinion.

Anyway, here's how I fixed it.
1) I ground down the firewall edge lip which gained me about 1/8". The factory cut was jagged and ugly anyway so this helped clean it up a little.

2) I cut most of the center brace out of the hood and left in the last inch. I fugured the funtional cowl hood doesn't have this brace so why the hell did I need it on the non-functional hood. I still need to clean up the cut the next time I take off the hood, but I can send a picture if it would help you visualize it.

Now it goes down perfect and I have plenty of clearance. The only other issue I may run into is the cowl seal may have issues.

One more thought, I had another issue which was the holes for the rear pins were not lined up correctly, but that was a simple fix...

Let me know if you need that pic or not.

You could always try another hood if you haven't already primed/painted yours.

Thanks guys.
I've spent the last few months searching for a local original GM replacement, and finally gave up. Kinda figured that whatever repop I ended up with, would have issue's. And this was the last part needed to finish the car.
Kyle, If you could send those pictures, that would be great. At least it's another option!

I am also having this exact problem on the 70 Goodmark "non-functioning" cowl hood. The body guy I have helping me thinks we should just remove that brace completely. Has anyone else done this, just cut it out and leave it out? Or should we just cut it out and move it forward until it doesn't hit the cowl, but then it may interfer with the aircleaner???

I am sure this has problem has been encountered numerous times, can anyone provide us with what they did?

Thanks

Kyle,
Instead of sending a picture, maybe it would be better to post it here. It seems as though this problem occurs more than I would have expected.
Thanks again,
Terry

Danm, forgot I owed you a picture, Terry. Sorry about that. I will get it first thing and post what I did here and e-mail it to you also.

Ryan, Yes the problem is the brace, rather then move it I cut it down, and am planning on rolling the edge to add the needed support the next time i have the hood off. I placed my cowl seal in temporarily and had no issues with that holding the hood up either.

I will get the picture ASAP.

Sorry Terry about the delay.

Kyle, I just figured you were as busy as me, It's no problem at all. I guess the issue is with the more recently manufactured hoods. Before initially posting, I did a search, and came up empty. I was surprised to actually find someone else with the same problem.
Thanks once again for all of your help,
Terry

Terry and Ryan T, Here is what I put together for you. It was easier to slap a page together then post each picture here.
