got a question ?i'm swapping out 273 open gears to 342 posi unit.i bought a used posi unit and i was wondering ..which side does the center spider gear shaft come out. is it from the lock bolt side or the other side ?it is a# 410408 -3 series carrier. and should it slide out somewhat easy or does it need pressed out? any advise would be great....thanks sasquatch58

On all of the ones that I have worked on before, the center pin slid out easily as soon as I removed the single locking bolt.

If the rearend has not sustained severe abuse, and the pin is in good condition, it should slid out either way, once the retaining bolt is removed. Sometimes, because of accumulated crud, it may require tapping on the pin with a punch and hammer.

Don't forget to push the axles in and remove the clips or the pin won't slide out. After that, sometimes they need a little coercing to get the pin out.
