: 1970 Elcamino 3 inch tail pipes
Bowtie70ss Mar 18th, 07, 10:01 PM Where did you guys get your 3 inch El camino tail pipes? I have a setof pypes 3 inch Chevelle tails but I would rather have them exit behind the wheels like they're supposed to. I already have 3 inch intermediate pipes and mufflers so I would rather not buy a $600 exhaust kit. I guess worse case scenario I can use the Chevelle tails and buy a couple of mandrel bends. I have the body off of the frame so fitting them won't be a problem. Thanks!!
Dave

First you make ten posts, then you make fun of our forum! :D JK
I would recommend you just do like you said, buy mandrel bends to modify or take it to an exhaust shop. Good luck, Brett :beers:
Bowtie70ss Mar 18th, 07, 11:07 PM I was not making fun I was merely pointing out that I am a dumbass for pushing the submit button 10 times. I really hate to cut those Chevelle tail pipes up because they have very nice repop SS tips welded on but you're probably right and I need to buy some bends. Too bad it's 3 inch since I have several 2.5 inch ones.

Dean Mar 18th, 07, 11:43 PM No problem Dave it happened to a few other people also.
Thing is every time you hit the submit I think it slows it down more.
mine are flowmaster american thunders...but, theyre only 2.5, i assume the 3 inchers are similar...but, bigger.
mine fit great, made me glad i finally gave up on having a "professional" muffler shop do my exhaust.... made me mad i didn't do it sooner. :|
70ElkySS Mar 19th, 07, 8:45 AM I'm interested too. I'm currently running 3" through the muffs with 2 1/2" American Thunder tails, but would upgrade if I could find just the tails.
hrd Mar 19th, 07, 11:26 PM i thought american thunders were available in 3" ....in fact, without even checking, i'm sure they are.

Well, I couldn't find them on either the Summit Racing or Flowmaster websites. Please post a link.
Bowtie70ss Mar 20th, 07, 11:26 PM Well, I decided not to bury $900 into exhaust so I used the stuff I bought from a fellow club member (Tri-state Chevelles). It is 3 inch with welded Ultraflow Dynomax(like flowmaster) and a pair of Pypes tailpipes and it was on his car for less than 6 months. For now i'm gonna run them out the back so I'll cut off the welded GM SS tips and extend it with a pair of 3 inch dumps. My car has been apart for 3 years and I am really trying to get it back on the road. I got the exhaust on the frame tonight and welded it up...now to buy a pair of dumps. If somebody does come up with some Elco 3 inch tail pipes let me know. BTW Magnaflow makes a 3 inch system but it is crazy expensive and also exits out the rear.

Yeah, they have 'em for Chevelles and "weld-your-own" kits, but unfortunately no pre-fabbed tails for Elkys.
ahh...i see, no "tail pipes only", anymore?, do you even see 2.5 tails only?, thats odd, i think i got mine from jegs or possibly summit, and i know 3.00's were available, because i remember some amount of hand wringing over which to get. the "pro" muffler shop did fine from the headers to the cross pipe to the mufflers but it looked like a half retarded 8th grader took over from there. so, all i needed were the tail pipes.
