: Proportioning Valve and Distribution Block??

Ok, I am a rookie on converting my car from drum to disk brakes. I tried it today and am totally confused. I got a total set-up a few years back off a 71 Chevelle and I am putting it on a 70. I ordered 1971 brake lines and a 71 distribution block, but it doesn't seem to work on a 70 frame. From the looks of it, the 70 has a distribution block with a bracket on it that bolts to the frame.

My questions are:

1.) Is the 70 distribution block different then a 70 (and how)?
2.) Do I need a proportioning valve and a distribution block?
3.) If I need both, where does the proportioning valve get attached to, and can you still buy these?
4.)

Any help you can provide would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

In 1971 they changed the dist. block into a porp. valve, and it looks like a dist. block. For what you want to do, I think the best thing would be to keep your stock dist. block and get what they call a hold-off valve that mounts up by the master cylinder. call the people at Inline Tube and tell them what you are trying to do, and they will fix you up with the right valve. www.inlinetube.com
Did you get the disc/drum master cylinder along with the brake parts you got off the 71? Did the 71 have power brakes? Did you get the power booster off of it too? Does the 70 have power brakes, or is it manual brakes? Just make sure you use the right master cylinder for which ever brake system you are going to use.

The later blocks were called combination valves as they were a distribution block and proportioning valve all in one. Our '72 Lemans had a bracket bolted to the frame then the valve bolted to it.
