Costs about $1000 Canadian for me to move cars from Ontario to British Columbia on the train. Takes about a week.

Call New Car Dealerships in both areas that you are moving to and from, and ask a sales manager which car carriers they use for dealer trades.

For a cross country you will probably find the train much quicker and more affordable than using a hiway rig setup.

Check DeMoise Trucking out of Greer, SC..they have 9 rigs running around the country, and they were excellent to deal with-great communication, extreme attention to detail about the condition of the vehicle.

I've already received a few quotes and talked to a couple companies. The average so far is around $1100.00 and 7-10 days for OTR trucks...... but you can never tell what kind of experiences others have had when talking to a rep on the phone.

There are private drivers out there also. But this is a good time of the yr to do it. Cause of all the retired folks going back to the northern states. That are having their cars shipped home. Because I don't care what they tell you. If that trailer isn't full. Your car isn't moving. Also if you put a price out there for say $500.00. Your car will sit there. Its not worsth their time for $ 500.00 More like $ 750:00 to a grand. If you get an open trailer. ask if you can get the top. Inclosed is really going to cost you. But like I said there are private drivers out there. Shop around. It will pay off.

Have had great experience with Elite Auto Transport out of Weatherford OK. It's a smaller family-type operation and with that you get trustworthy service.

Good luck. My experience with getting cars from out west to midwest sucks. I have had about 10 cars shipped from and to all over the country in the last year and the average time to get a car is about 6 weeks. They all string you along and sting you along some more.

I used Intercity Lines for a ship from LA to Chicago for $1500 enclosed. Picked the car up Monday morning and delivered it on Saturday.

I recommend the service and will use them again! A little pricey, but what is a few hundred for peace of mind? I went enclosed since it was during winter months.

In July '07 I used a broker... cosmosautotransport.com
I got quotes from about 8 transport companies. They were the cheapest.

$470 from Richfield, UT to Rancho Mirage, CA. - approximately 600 miles.

Filled out forms online on a Thursday evening requesting the following Monday pickup. Received a call on Monday saying car was being picked up and would be delivered on Tuesday. It was...In perfect condition.

Quotes ran from $470.00 to over $1000.

Another vote for Elite...... Just used them AZ to OK. Very easy to deal with, excellent vehicles and service, just be sure to have Cashier's Check or Cash at delivery point. They 'will' take a credit card but it will cost more. (slight charge for their fee) Their charge seems to be about a dollar a mile.

I had a former featured car from this site shipped from AZ. to PA. with Dependable auto shippers car arrived in perfect condition and price was good. I chose them because there drivers are all company drivers and control and accountability are much better in this enviorment. Try to stay with a company like that as it is well known that some of the fly by night outfits can swap loads in the middle of nowhere and thats not exactly what you want. Good luck,RR

I have never used them but I have read quite a few bad comments about DAS. Go to the Yenko.net forum and do a search for DAS. One of the members there bought the coupe that was always in Fonzie's show on Happy Days and had DAS ship it. The driver took longer that he should have to deliver the car. When it was finally delivered the owner found out that the truck driver had taken the car for an extended joy ride. If I remember correctly, the driver put over 200 miles on the car.

Just read through this thread. Has anyone used a transporter from the New England states (to PA)? I got a quote from Demoise, and they said they rarely go to VT, but would be $1000 for enclosed transport (about 620 miles - Burlington to Pgh PA)

I thought about towing with my truck, but the U-Haul said my truck wouldn't be good enough, and the tow dolly this would be $400 anyhow (plus about $250 in gas)

I keep hitting these pitfalls. I sure don't want of those shady transporters

BTW, I haven't purchased the car yet. Was thinking of getting around trip airline ticket (about $250) and going to check it out. It's drivable, but I don't know if I'd want to drive it on the highway for 620 miles

I have not had any first hand experance with DAS but there is a DAS hub close to my parents house and I have seen cars sit for a couple of days in their lot I guess waiting for a truck heading out to a certain part of the country. Could be a fluke but I have seen it quite a few times and some of the cars probably got rained on for the first in a long time.
