: Inner fenders,,,are these correct

Well guys, I hope I didn't reemed. I hate going to a swap meet with my TC hat on. I feel like they automaticly tell me, "Sure it will fit a Chevelle."

Anyway, I picked up 2 inner fenders that the guy told me he took off a 70 Chevelle. I wasn't sure if they would work on my 72 Elcamino(will they). I wanted to go look at a book or something, but there was a guy right behind me wanting them too.

When the guy said $50 for the pair, I almost felt bad for offering him $30. But he said $40, and I said sold. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

They really are in great shape, just a little rusty powder under the battery. What should I treat that with. I'm planning on sand blasting them, but thought I should do something to kill the battery acid. Would baking soda work, or coca cola.

Can you guys verify they will fit my 72 Elky. Thanks for any input, Cal

Here's some pics. fender 1 (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/tempfender1.jpg) and fender2 (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/tempfender4.JPG)

They will fit. I've got a chevelle steel inner fender on my drivers side of my 72 El Camino. And for $40 for both, you got a steal!

I'd sandblast them, cut the rust out from under the battery tray, weld in new steel, and paint.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the reply Jimmie. But like I said, there is no rust at all. Just some rust colored powder. I guess the battery tray saved it. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif That's why I thought I should chemically treat it.

Anyone know what the proper color would be. Gloss, or semi gloss. Could I spray bomb this, or let the body shop do it.

I've used baking/soda water before on the area under the battery tray..works mint.Coat it with "rust mort" or a rust convertor after cleaning it with the baking soda/water solution. Then, prime it/paint it.If you "know" how to spray well with a can,I say go for it IMO.It all depends on what you want.A little spray bomb action done well looks good and the results can look professional if properly prepped.Again,JMO and experience.

NAPA sells stuff called Chassis Black.
It comes the closest I have seen to the correct color and gloss. Cans are big, but you will need at least 3 maybe 4 cans to do both inners. Dries fast, but let it cure for a couple days before installing.
Just did this on my 69.

I hate to spoil the party, but I looked at the pics of the inner fender wells and they are not from a 70 Chevelle. They look like they are from a camaro and not a chevelle. I have my fender wells out of the my 70 now and they are nothing like what you have pictured.

I agree with 70SS. They are not 68-72 Chevelle. But if you did have the right ones, have them sandblasted and powder coated. I did mine, they look great.

I agree I don't think those are Chevelle/Elcamino. I am not an expert but those don't look like mine and I have them off sitting in front of the car right now.

Sorry

Oh great. I knew I had a funny feeling about that guy. He told me he personaly took them off a 70 Chevelle.

Are there any part #'s to be found on these things.

70SS,,,or anyone else have a picture that I can compare them to.

Can anyone verify they're for a Camero, or have a picture of a Camero inner fender. Thanks, Cal
