I don't use a gauge. I just do it by feel. You don't need very much pressure. Remember, you're pressurizing a fairly large volume, so you have to put in a fair amount of air before it starts to pressurize.

If you use the unpunched rubber grommets for plugs, the thin area on the bottom of the grommet will start to bow up a little. That means you have pressure in the engine and that's when I stop.

Probably 5 psi or less.
