Hey Frank,
Been watching for some time now. Hate to type but, face to face, I'll benchrace your ears off! Just ask Mike Parker. I'm way over here on the coast in Aberdeen. Been doing some major bellhousing back upgrades after twisting the dr side axle tube in the housing last August at the supershifter race in Bremerton leaving the line. Hurt my M20 twice last year in front of 4.56 gears. Waiting for my new drive line right now after going to Richmond 5 speed with 3.55's.
I suggested to 66SSfan that a good get together would be at the Chevy Drags at Bremerton the 1st week in June. They have a car show and give out a lot of trophies. I'd like to meet everyone!

Any of you guys make it out to bremerton raceway? I will be out there quite a bit this year since I have donated my 70 malibu to my buddies racing hobby. I supplied the car, he supplied the drivetrain. So far we have 650 hp SB, powerglide with transbrake and we are working on rollcage and ford 9 inch.

Hey Ben, if the weather is decent I might cruise of there with you on the 25th.

I'm walking out the door right now to pick up my kids in Shoreline. I'll be stopping by the Lynnwood cruise spot (Taco Time @ about 17400 & Hwy 99)on the way home.

Maybe see one or two of you there. The kids and I will most likely be heading to Clearview tomorrow night if the weather holds.

It's a 1/4 mile track. I usually go out there with a fairly large group. We have plenty of trailers between everyone there. If you see any of the following cars out there, they are my buddies or their kids.

blue 66 chevelle that turns really bad times, but does great 1/8th mile burnouts.

Black 66 Nova with a Vortec V-6.

Tan Mazda RX-7 with a SB in it.

Bright yellow Porsche 911 with SB chevy and an oldsmobile transaxle.

And hopefully soon a Gold/Black primered 70 malibu ( my chassis).

They all have Fleetline racing stickers in their rear windows. Stop by and say howdy.

Did the U-Haul thing myself for the first 2 seasons and rode home broke one time. When I needed it I was sure glad to have it there. Sounds like there will be plenty of them around.
Brian, that 468/9 inch combo will make that 1/4 mile trip a whole different story!:D Bremerton has TnT every friday afternoon on race weekends all season. Gates open at 3PM, you can run the wheels off if you like on those nights and it's fun because you never know what will be in the lane next to you.

Hi George,

Funny, I also work at Ft Lewis as a defense contractor. Haven't seen your Elky though, I'll keep my eye open for it. Haven't had much of a chance to get around because I've been deployed since Nov 03. This will be my first summer home since then and I plan on going to a few shows and of course the NHRA Nationals this Jul up at Pacific Raceway. Haven't driven the old gal much since 2003 and kinda thought about seeing what she'll bring at sale. No decision yet just toying with the idea.

Nope, I don't know Matt Parsons although I have seen from time to time a couple of chevelles and Elky's

Well, maybe I'll see ya around Lewis, would like to meet some other Chevelle guys in the area, maybe that will get me re-energized with mine.

Regards

Bruce

Bruce,

I'm working for COMTek, contract hire for ROTC support. Right now working at the ROTC HQ. I'll be the Liaison at the annual Warrior Forge camp so will work up there N Fort this summer. I retired a year ago :hurray: ....Cav Scout with 3rd Bde/2ID.

I cleaned the car some today SUNDAY.....
I looked at my stash of BBC parts some.....some more parts swapping then pre-assembly tasks.

However, mild 350's Holley 600 needed some attention. Worked on this, cleaned the interior a bit, major tests with the carb....used some Premium testing... I cleaned most of the winter accumulation off the engine....

So, you've not seen my Elky. Seen my Yaller 68 Vette?
Did you say you are thinking about selling your car?

Chevy_Rat
Apr 24th, 07, 2:50 PM
George,

Small world, I retired from 3-2 IN BDE back in 2001. I was the OPS SGM for 5-20. Soon after that I was hired as a contractor to support the ABCS digital systems and have been ever since. I deployed with 3-2 back in 2003, stayed for the year and deployed again with 1-25, and again with Stryker from Alaska. Just returned not too long ago after I deployed again with 3-2 this last time.

First summer home in quite a while and planning on heading to Pacific Raceway for the NHRA race in Jul.

Elky sounds very cool, Nope, haven't seen the yeller vette either..... I got to get out of this bubble I'm in more often lol.

I'm just kinda toying with the idea of selling the velle, I really love it but haven't had much time to spend on it and the poor car just sits in the garage year after year. Maybe this summer.

I need to replate the brake booster, put in the correct battery cables, rebuild the Muncie shifter (have a hurst comp plus in it now) and maybe repaint the old gal.

Other than that it is almost like factory, fully matching, documents, engine and bay detailed to match factory, and you can still see the lead lines joining the rear quarters to the roof line...

Well, take care George and maybe I'll see ya around..

Bruce

Bruce,

I left Kelley Hill, Ft Benning in late 99 to ROTC Bde Ops at FT Lewis. I dragged the Vette behind my Bronco. I came down to visit the Cav boys at 1-32 AR later 1/14 CAV. When the ROTC gig ended, I managed a PCS down the street for 1/14 CAV Feb 03. They were full on SFCs so I got snaked into being the Rear-D 1SG when they certified at Irwin then Polk. Got put in S-3 after their return, one short FTX to get my feet wet with all the digital stuff, then it was off to Iraq! So, sink or swim with all the Digital/ABCS/other TOC stuff/15k gen sets and 4-foot long hand receipt!!!! Ops SGM and the Vet SFC were doing FOB Mayor and Liaison so I had the reigns. I excelled as TOC NCOIC/Battle NCO. Samarra, Tall'Afar, Balad, Tall'Afar, and ended up in Mosul, west side. Most of the time we had Charlie Rock 5-20 assigned to us and the Regulars had our A Trp. Got back, did the Sqdn refit, train-up, but I'd had enough, was coming up on 46 years of age (started at age 25+).

Are you SAIC or CUBIC?
WE should get together for lunch.... maybe I could motivate you re Chevelles and such like stuff. SEND PM with some contact info.....

Hi again! I got the new 383 in my '70! It started with the first turn of the key. That was pretty exciting for a novice like me! I've done the break-in procedure, and have taken it out for some quick spins. It feels great! The new torque converter is very different and aggressive compared to the stock one I had before. Granted, its not a race car, but it feels like one to me!
Tomorrow I'm taking it to a shop in Shoreline to have them dial it in. Then, I just need to put the hood back on and I'm ready.

The tune up went well. He really didn't have to do much.

Gilby, I'm running a TH350 trans, with a TCI converter with about 3000 stall. I don't know exactly, I went on their website, put in all the info I could, and they recommended that converter.
I have a 3.73 posi rear end. It formerly had 2.76 gears. I had the gears and the transmission re-done about two years ago.

The engine has 9.6 compression, World iron SR heads with port work, Keith Black pistons, stamped roller rockers 1.6 ratio, Edelbrock EPS manifold with Endurashine finish. I have headers and 2 1/2 inch exhaust. I'll try to upload some photos.

I've been chasing a problem for the last few days though. I have oil splattered on the passenger-side header, just below the starter. At first I thought it was tranny fluid, then I was worried that it was leaking out of the rear crank seal. I then tightened the oil pan bolts, which were surprisingly loose, so I thought that was it. But, I finally figured out that it is coming off the back corner of the valve cover, running down the block, over the starter, then splattering on the headers. It has made quite a mess of burned oil on the header. I used some steel wool to clean up some of it, but its going to take some detail work.

Thanks for the info on Clearview being on Saturday. I will definitely plan to be there. I'm heading up to Lynnwood tonight for work. If it doesn't rain, I'm gonna drive the Chevelle. I still don't have the hood on!

I had that oil problem before too, I was using rubber gaskets. Ended up buy some rubber ones with steel core..work great. tighten them to much and they will split though

New Starter? Heat soak thing? How about heat shield, thermal wrap, new solenoid before new starter? Mini-starter? I've been round the world with this in RatVette. No issues with the Elky but this is a SBC with mega breathing room in the engine compartment.
