: Favorite Tools!!
sevt_chevelle Mar 18th, 03, 7:54 PM After coming home from a recent car club meeting held at More ambition then brains's shop and seeing the some the tech's boxes(big enough to live in), I wondered what in the hell is in there? Am wondering what are some your favorite tools? Being a metal man I have to maintain a varity of stuff.
Just some of my favorites...Curved chisel hammer(working out dents)...General purpose dolly...High speed grinder(paint removal and helps shrink high spots in metal)...Stud gun(pulls out dents)...Hutchins hustler(sands bondo-My all time fav tool)...Cotter pin remover(great for loosing those pesky electricial connectors)...1/4 air ratchet...Just to name a few, so whats yours?...Eric
street/strip68 Mar 18th, 03, 8:08 PM It has to be the 3/8 air ratchet, the pneumatic body saw and the trusty welder.
Professor_SS Mar 18th, 03, 8:27 PM I wood work, weld, fab, remodel, build.... and more recently do body work and paint so I have a large variety of power and hand tools. and I love them all every one. graemlins/hurray.gif
stephenmarshall Mar 18th, 03, 10:44 PM That would be tuff.
Would have to figure out my favorite vs the most used.
I love my miller 210 welder and look for any reason to use it but I always have a varity of air tools in my hands over the corse of the day. I really love my air saw and who could live with out a cut off tool.
Than there is the handy tools: the chop saw and drill press etc.
But my favorite tool has to be this old anvil. I always smile when I wander over to the corner of the shop , and start working some metal on it.

BIGMOE65 Mar 18th, 03, 11:11 PM My favorite tool is a 5 axis cnc mill I program at work. It sure has made some nice car parts for me. But at home my tool of choice has to be the sawzall.
gasoline_fiend Mar 18th, 03, 11:21 PM Duct tape. 'Nuff said. :D
LYTEMUP Mar 19th, 03, 12:27 AM It would have to be the almighty sawzal. graemlins/hurray.gif
Also top on my list is a vacuum gauge. I really like to see that needle move around.

Need I say more?
MARTINSR Mar 19th, 03, 10:30 PM I do collision repairs everyday, so fab tools like my pnumatic planishing hammer and shrinker/stretcher tools don't get any play these days. My favorites are simple things like my SnapOn trim panel poppers, angled mini picks for mouldings, and my all time favorite my Spitsnagle spot weld driller! graemlins/waving.gif

ngb Mar 23rd, 03, 10:17 AM Martin sr, What is a spitsnagel spot weld driller? I am looking for a new tool to make spot weld removal faster. I use my air chisel with spot weld cutter bit and I have the tiny hole saw looking drill bits with the pointed center pin that I think sucks. I have seen in my Eastwood catalog they have a neat looking drill bit that appears to be self centering, I am going to try one of these. Anyone with there technics please jump in, I am always willing to learn.

cjlandry Mar 23rd, 03, 2:08 PM 1.- Good floor jack. I just got a killer deal on one a few weeks ago through a "Craftsman Club" special. Got 3½-ton floor-jack, jackstands, and a new creeper for $119. One pump stroke gets it up to the load. Sweet! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
2.- Oxygen/Acetylene rig (cutting torch, heating torch, and welding torches). I think this should be in any gearhead's arsenal.
3.- Welding machine. Though I can weld heavier material with the oxy/acetylene rig. A mig or stick welding machine is nice.
4.- Air compressor and all it's extensionals.
5.- BFH
crazy canuck Mar 23rd, 03, 9:09 PM I would have to say my 110 volt miller mig welder and plasma cutter. And my vintage assortment of snap-on hammers, dollies, spoons, and prybars that I got off of a retired bodyman when I started out in the trade 15 years ago.
