I am trying to decide what to do about my trunk lid for my 72 Chevelle. The original one is in pretty good shape on the outside, but on the underside in all those little pockets there is quite a bit of surface rust. I was going to have it media blasted, but I don't think they will be able to get the rust in all those hidden areas. Then a friend suggested chemical stripping, but again, I don't think I will be able to get paint in those hidden pockets. I may just end up getting a reproduction lid from my local NPD or should I find a mint original? Any suggestions or opinions welcomed!
Thanks!

Is there any place near you where you can have your deck lid dipped? If so, that would be the way to go, unless the areas beneath the braces present a problem.
I bought a 71 Monte deck lid for my Chevelle in perfect shape for $40. 70-72 Monte decks interchange.

Randy, I checked Ecoatking (http://www.ecoatking.com/) , which is in my area, and they want $180  to dip and coat the trunk lid. I can get a repro for $180 from NPD (National Parts Depot). Does anyone know how the repro. compares to the original?
Thanks!

I just got back from NPD and took a look at one of their reproduction trunck lids. On the outside it looked o.k., but the underside did not look like my original. It may be o.k. for a daily driver, but I think I'll stick to an original. Now I begin my search for a mint original.
Thanks!
