I have been searching ebay, craigslist, and the classifieds on this site. Looking for a roller that is in pretty good condition. Where are good places to look. This is my first time building a car.

Definately not ebay. I would never buy a car site unseen. Pictures can only tell so much and seem to conveintly leave out other details of the condition that may affect the final price. As well, there are way to many scams on ebay regarding cars that have a knack for seperating your money from your pocket while you end up with nothing. I am an ebay seller and i would never buy a car off of ebay. Just my two cents.

Some of the best deals are literally in your backyard. Ask around...you'll be surprised at whats stashed away in a garage across town.
Ebay's not bad either IF you're cautious. I've bought cars off Ebay before (including the present project) but you've gotta use common sense in the deals.

There are a lot more cars hiding in garages than you think. My new neighbor opened her garage over the weekend and there buried under boxes sets a 65 Olds 442 rag top, all original. She says to me I wish my husband would get rid of that old thing, Its been sitting there for years. You never know there might be one right under your nose. I also have had good luck with small town classifieds. We have one in Middletown Ohio called the tell-it-and-sell-it, and it always has old cars or parts listed.
Happy hunting!!!!

I wouldn't say eBay is a bad place to buy cars, but I would say you need to do your homework. I have purchased two cars off eBay and both were exactly what the seller described. The first thing I do is check the sellers FEEDBACK and if they have negatives I check to see why and then check the feedback of the poeple who left them a negative. 99% of the time you have retalitory feedback because you just can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Because you're in the market for a roller, it will be much easier since there are a lot more quality rollers than fully done cars. A lot of people start a project and quickly figure out it's not as easy as opening up a Year One book and ordering parts so they lose interest or run low on funding. Not everyone selling cars on eBay are ripping people off but there are some who try and make a living doing just that so be careful. If you find something that really peaks your interest, ask the good people on this site if anyone is close enough to go take a look for you, I know most people here would be glad to help you out.

I definitely agree with looking around town. Heck, I found out that a couple of my neighbors within a block or so, have muscle cars, that I wasn't aware of.

:disco: And if all else fails, STOP LOOKING. That seems to be when the best deals pop up. :D

Greetings!

I too searched every conceivable web site out there for my classic.
When your out and about, see if there are any folks local that deal in
classic cars. Its not limited to a car dealer either.

A family owned gas station, or body shop. I have a couple
of ways I take home from work to keep the drive interesting.
Its alternate ways around town is when you least expect it.

I met a couple of brothers locally that dealt in going all over the state
searching for cars, bringing them back and parking out front of their shop.
I drive by it every day. On Monday of this week, they were unloading my
car. I new it as soon as I saw it. A rust free, Northern California car.
I lucked out.

The important thing to remember is to be patient. In my many searches on
line, I found several sites of dry, rust-free cars scattered throughout
Arizona.

By all means necessary, you must utilize your location -
get on line and surf in literally your own backyard. Its one in
a thousand for those of us from the Midwest - in my case Michigan,
to come across a rust-free car from the Western United States in state.

Try finding some local car clubs and check out swapmeets and cruise ins. Make sure you got to those swap meets very early, like when the gates open (6am?), early bird catches the worm.

If your around tucson, irvington swap meet on the 31st, wildcat swap meet on the 14th, ask around, knock on doors, be prepared with cash. when you see one that your remotely interested in grab it, I know of at least 6 people that have people looking for them and paying finders fees for old musclecars. They grab them as fast as they can and flip them just as quick. Good luck! Jim

There is a classic car/muscle car auction in Gilbert this weekend. I know the cars up for auction are finished cars but will people have rollers around trying to sell em?? maybe??

Racingjunk.com, collectorcartraderonline.com, craigslist.com, local paper, etc, if you're looking for a specific car at a specific place. I'm a big fan of e bay for selling, but not for buying.

If you're just looking for a good deal on a musclecar, beat the bushes around your hometown for something that's not advertised for sale. Of the 7 musclecars that I have, only one was adverstised for sale. Others were the result of hard work, wasted trips, some luck, plenty of persistence.

Good luck,

Scott

Post a want ad in the Chevelle classifieds on this forum. That's where I found my rust free 1970, the seller worked with me as well. I looked in the local classifieds and found lots of rusty junk (cars.com)

I agree go to the local cars shows of the models your interested in. There is almost always a few for sale that might be of interest.
