: 70 SS dash question.
prefectca Mar 13th, 07, 5:49 PM In this forum I regularly see people picking SS cars apart and one of the major things is a reproduction SS dash having the four small hole circles plated. The people here claim it is not correct BUT in this 1970 SS 396 ad it clearly shows the dash with all the circles plated (or painted which ever is correct). If you pause the video when he starts the car the dash can clearly be seen.

Beaux Mar 13th, 07, 6:03 PM My own dash is original and it not painted and every documented car I have seen is the same way - non painted / plated.
PS - If you look at the stripes on the decklid in the video they are incorrect also. And it appears that they stayed away from any wheel shots for a reason and to me it looks like that car has standard rallye wheels on it.
prefectca Mar 13th, 07, 7:40 PM I believe the stripes are different on very early 70's with the rounded corners coming part way through the year. That has been discussed here before and both early and late designs are in the assembly manual that I have.

MEJ1990TM Mar 13th, 07, 8:06 PM From what I could see it looked like the center caps for the SS type wheels. It's got an automatic in it. :( Or at least the brake pedal.
704EVER Mar 13th, 07, 8:53 PM The stripes look different from regular production in the back as they are only on the trunk lid and don't carry from the bottom of the rear window. The dash may have been what they thought it should look like when they filmed the commercial, however regular production did not have the 4 small circles in silver. I've seen a lot of low mile, survivor/junks to feel comfortable in saying this. PS I just added a picture of the 29 mile Chevelle.
RedSpecialSS Mar 13th, 07, 9:47 PM one thing that I also want to point out that can been seen on the above attached picture is someone in another part of this forum said my car did not orgionally come with gauges because mine had white letters were apparetly they claimed that in 70 the letters (numbers) are supposed to be green. I dont think that car is incorrect. Oh, my car has those painted I believe.

Wow good eyes! I didn't pick up on the stripes on the trunk lid. The car in the ad must truly be a preproduction model. I wonder what ever happenned to it? Maybe it wasn't even a big block!

silver chevelle Mar 14th, 07, 8:25 AM Here is a page out of the '70 advertising brochure. This dash doesn't have the silver on the indicators. http://www.tocmp.com/brochures/1970Chevelle/pages/70chevl-002_jpg.htm

WOW! Thanks for the link to the brochures. The link even shows a picture of my first car, the 300 deluxe coupe.

Here is a link to the site where I found this. It has many old brochures and manuals, but not much for Chevelles.
