the trunk seal area on the 66 I have is in bad bad shape is there any way of fixing this without buying full quarters? I just want the trunk to seal up I have not seen any aftermarket pieces for that area. and I dont have much in the line of junk yards around here that would have a 66 donor. any help would be great

Most GM cars have a similarly shaped trunk weatherstrip channel. The weatherstrip fits lots of different cars. Perhaps you could cut some channel out of a later model car that is the proper length?

Not to be offensive but, are you sure it's the "trunk seal" that's leaking? Most 66 and 67's developed rust holes in the base of the rear window channel below the glass, under the exterior trim. There isn't any way for water to drain out of there and it just lays in there, rots thru the body and then rots the trunk floor.
You could be trying to fix the wrong area. But, perhaps you've checked that out.

I am going to have to replace the panel under the rear window as well since it too has some holes but I can buy the patch panel for that. thanks for the input

Yeah, kinda figured you would have checked that. I too have one with the trough on the right side rotted out. I was fortunate enough to find a donor car for parts.

If it is the side channel that is the problem I would suspect that you could fab a piece to put in yourself as it is straight with a slight downward curve, unlike the channel that runs the width of the car below the window. The only detail that might be a problem are the little tabs that hold the weatherstripping in at the corners. I would weld it at the bend where the quarter folds over into the lip as this would be the least likely place for it to warp if too much heat is applied. Just make sure to keep the reinforcement piece that goes underneath. Hope that helps...

Hi guys, wanted to ask about what ed3196499 is tackling, I have the same dilemma. After years of sitting (2 outside) my 67 SS trunk seal area rusted as well, and I'm doing the new quarters and trunk panel under the window. What options are available for replacing the rivets for the mold clips on rear window channel? I know Eastwood offers a spot gun kit along with rivets, but are they the only option right now (without fabricating some) and what about dimensions for placement.

My other 70 has this problem. I cut out the entire trunk gutter from a 71 4 door that I scrapped. I have not gotten around to fixing it yet though. It can be done, just takes time and patience and lots of measuring to get it right.

Like WayneK said, best option are those screw-in studs. Tried the spot gun kit but couldn't get them to attach close enough to the body so that the trim was tight...someone else may have better luck though.

I know this isn't the "right" way to do it, but how about this stuff POR 15 patch (http://www.por15.com/product.asp?productid=8) In their print catalog, fixing the trunk channel is exactly what they are using the product for. Plus it will only cost you $15.
