My 70 SS grille has seen 31 years of bugs and stones from the road thrown at it and is in need of a paint job. I've sanded and painted wood trim and windowsills in my house (wife's orders!) but don't have a lot of experience repainting grilles.
What sandpaper to use? Do I remove all the old paint? Do I need a primer? What kind of paint is best? Anybody have any experience doing this?

Thanks as always,

Scott

Well the grille IS plastic so don't use chemical strippers. I would personally use 500 Grit sandpaper and get all loose paint chips etc at minimum feathered out so you can get good paint adhesion! then re-prime and paint..

And be sure to use wet-or-dry sandpaper, not the kind you use on wood.

As for paint, I'd order it from someone like Year One along with the the bonding agent for plastic. Even though it's an interior paint, I think it will work okay for a grille. Satin black is the color you want.
