I removed the front clip from my 1964 Chevelle Wagon over the weekend and noticed that the area behind the firewall on both sides of the car are full of dirt and leaves. I tried to rinse it out and it seems like most of it now went into the rocker area. Has anyone found a way to clean these areas well and prep them before painting the car? There is no rust now, but I am sure it will rust if left the way it is. Interseting design GM came up with on that. I think I will put screens in the vents by the windshield when I put it back together. graemlins/clonk.gif

you need to take the kick pannels out and remove the vent, then you can reach right in there and vacume it all out. at least on 68-72 you can. it gets it out of the lower cowl not the rockers. the rockers are not open to leaves, only a small drain hole so just squirt it out with water, you could and probably should enlarge those drain holes. and finnaly, take it to a Zebart or place that specializes in rust proofing, they squirt stuff in all of those places so you can sleep at night. and screens are highly recomended. the plastic inserts, not the metal wire screens like on cutlasses.
