Where can I get the trunk spatter paint for a 71 SS? I've looked in some of the catalogs (NPD etc. ) and don't see it. I beleive it should be Black w/ aqua????

Try your local auto body supply store. Most likely it will be cheaper than in the catalog and you don't have to pay to high shipping. Don't forget to getthe clear coat for it also.

I just picked up two cans at the local Chevy dealer for my '67. They were $10 ea. and matched perfect!

good question, how many cans does it take to do a trunk? Anybody have any experience with Por15? I did a search and found a thread back a couple years that recommended Por15 to stop the surface rust.

Two cans should do it. Surface preparation is critical as the new stuff won't stick well - especially once it gets wet. POR15 is great for the surface rust but you probably should topcoat it with one of their primers before splattering it. Mine didn't want to stick to the POR15. Maybe if I'd done it while the POR15 was still tacky it would have helped...

In your area try Advance Auto Parts. 8 - 10 cans, plus 2 cans of clear. POR 15 is great stuff but not a cure all. I painted my entire underbody chassis and frame with it then detailed over it, time will tell how good it is. You will probably want to prime over the POR (with gray primer) they paint the splatter.

8-10 cans? :eek:What color was the trunk when you started? I painted my trunk with black epoxy, then sprayed it with the Gm stuff. One can did it and i had a little left over. Any more would have been overkill.I can't imagine putting 8 cans on it. It does not cover well, so i would paint it black first.
