So understanding all I have read, about the 70-71 Vin
ANY Chevelle SS396 / 454 without the original engine, or the ever elusive build sheet, is a possible fraud.

Clones < Admitted > Go way cheap in relation to supposed < Real > SS Cars

SO if you buy a Non Matching car, its as good as a clone, or vice versa because you have no solid way of proving its heritage.

A difference, that is not different, is no difference, or something to that effect.

But as I am 44, and back in the cruising/racing days, I got such a bad taste in my mouth, over "Fakes " We called them fakes 20 years ago LOL
Its hard for me to shell out 15 grand on a < Reproduction " Hate that word..

I was reading the 70 Chevelle Sport Coupe with the 400 " 402 " is actually a rare < ish > car, because so many people have cloned the ones that were around.

thoughts?

I think you'll have a hard time finding a good clone for 15K, and you certainly won't find a real SS with paperwork for that kind of money unless you come across a barn find from a 90 year old widow with Alzheimers. I've seen some very, very well done clones for sale in the 40-50K range and the sellers are probably not making any money on them. Try building one of these cars correctly and you'll see how fast the cash goes before your even close to being done. I'm not surprised at all that the LS-6 clone convertibles are bringing 150-165K, real ones are double, if not more. I'd rather spend 50-60K on a VERY! correctly done SS clone than a real documented car that needs a total resto. You could spend 50K+ on the resto alone if you don't have a shop to do it yourself, never mind the price of the car to begin with. If you can get a decent 70 that runs and doesn't look TOO bad for 15K these days your doing good. Just my .02
