25yrs Ago I Bought A Cowl Induction Hood And Air Cleaner For My 70 From The Dealer. I Still Have Them In The Box. I Recently Looked At The Air Cleaner And Could Not Find A Part # On It. It Came In A Gm Box With An Ac Filter. My Question Is Should They Have The Part#s Stamped On Them. If So, Where Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,
No part # would be stamped on the air cleaner or hood. Some ealy NOS air cleaners that I've had were ink stamped with a date code but no part #. Your air cleaner is most likely a GM # 6485891 and your hood would most likely be # 3987028. I say most likely because both of these parts are superceded #s for the origional air cleaner # 6485235 and hood # 3965951 because neither of the earlier #s would have been available 25 years ago, but the other #s were. BTW if you purchased a thermac equipped cowl air cleaner for a 71-72 Chevelle the part # is 6485236. Hope this is what you were looking for.

thanks chris those are the numbers on the boxes. how about the original stuff that came on the car would they have part #s on them. the reason is,I found my build sheet last year and it shows CO for the dual horn air cleaner. so when its time to shop for one id like a better idea of what to look for, a part # on it would be nice. the only problem is i dont know how to tell my wife i putting the house up for sale.

Sorry Mark, No origional air cleaners that I've seen have a stamped part #. When they were installed on the assembly line they had a I.D. sticker that carried both the part # and 2 letter code that you found on your build sheet. I've had a few cars with the CO dual snorkel air cleaner so I feel your pain. Be cautious when you do decide to buy a dual snorkel as there are a few floating around that are repops. Not many were made but they are out there. Pretty easy to spot if you have had or seen an origional but not if you're not familiar with it. Good luck, Chris
