: Transmission identification

the other day I lifted the body off of my 69 SS and am trying to ID the transmission. The number that I have cleaned off is different from any others that I have seen on the body so im not sure if it is original or not. It has a B&M shifter on it, and the previous owner had cut chunks out of the frame and body to make it fit. It has the same color/aged sealant as the engine and so im guessing that the tranny was rebuilt when the engine was. Sorry for the cell phone pictures.

Looks like a standard 69 or newer Muncie. Was the car originally an automatic? Could be the reason for a large hole in the floor.

Looks like a saginaw 4 speed. Muncies have the reverse separate from the side cover while saginaws have it in the side cover from what I know. hope that helps Andy

Quite right, missed that detail. I was looking at the way the arms attached and didn't even see there were three of 'em. on the main case

I've been told this is a m22 muncie, I don't pay that much attention, but if it might help you if you need to know what one looks like. Picture # 38, 40, 62, and 63 show you what they look like.

On my site under chassis pictures.
